Baseball drops NESCAC West Division series opener against Williams

Kopp ’25 tallied his fourth double of the season for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – Williams College scored two crucial runs in the eighth inning and rallied for a 3-2 victory over the Hamilton College Continentals in the opening game of their NESCAC West Division series at Hamilton's Loop Road Athletic Complex on Friday, April 4.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (9-9, 1-3 NESCAC West) has dropped its last three contests.
  • Williams (8-6, 1-0) has won three straight and four of its last five.

How It Happened

  • The Ephs scored a run in the top of the first inning.
  • Hamilton tied the score with a run in the bottom of the inning when Chester Boynton '27 led off the inning with a walk. A double to shallow left-center field by Greg Kopp '25 and an infield groundout by Henry Boehm '25 brought Boynton across the plate.
  • The Continentals took a 2-1 lead with another run in the bottom of the second. Lucas Herman '26 smacked a hard single between shortstop and third base and Jeremy Diaz '27 was hit by a pitch with two outs. Boynton loaded the bases after drawing his second walk and Kopp forced in Herman with another free pass.
  • After five scoreless innings, Williams regained the lead in the top of the eighth with two key runs. A lead-off double, a fielder's choice and a groundout to the second baseman put two runners in scoring position with two outs. A single through the left side brought both runners home.
  • The Ephs retired the side in order in the eighth and ninth innings.

Notes

  • Kopp recorded his fourth double and 14th RBI of the season.
  • Boehm drove in his eighth run of the season, singled, was hit by pitch, and stole a base.
  • Herman scored his sixth run and tallied his ninth hit of the season.
  • Boynton crossed the plate for his team-leading 17th run and drew two walks.
  • Hamilton starting pitcher Aden Soroca '27 surrendered one run on five hits, issued three walks and struck out four over five innings of work.
  • Eddie Taylor '25 (1-2) fanned five batters and allowed two runs on three hits in four innings of relief.
  • Henry Juan led the Ephs with three hits including a double.
  • Luca Lopetrone singled in a pair of runs and added a sacrifice bunt.
  • Grant Greiner (1-0) tossed a hitless, scoreless 2.2 innings of relief while walking one batter and striking out four.
  • Lucas Asanovic retired the side in order in the ninth and secured his second save.
