Baseball drops NESCAC West Division series opener against Amherst, 8-7

Kopp ’25 matched a career high with four hits for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – A.J. Zaccareo's sacrifice fly drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth for Amherst College, and the Mammoths posted an 8-7 NESCAC West Division win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Hamilton's Loop Road Athletic Complex on Friday, April 25.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (14-15, 2-8 NESCAC West) won its previous three home games.
  • The Mammoths (15-14, 7-3) have won six of their last eight contests.

How It Happened

  • Amherst tied the score at 7–7 with a run in the eighth and took the lead in the ninth on a one-out triple and Zaccareo's sac fly.
  • The Continentals had the tying and winning runs on base with one out in the bottom of the ninth, but the next two batters struck out and flew out to end the game.
  • Amherst came out swinging and built a 6–0 lead by the third with two runs in the first, three in the second, and another in the third.
  • Hamilton erased the deficit with a six-run outburst in the bottom of the third. Ethan Righter '27 got it started with a walk and Jeremy Diaz '27 followed with an infield single. Alfonso Rada '27 drove in the first run with a double down the left-field line. Chester Boynton '27 brought home Diaz with a hard grounder to shortstop and Gianni DiCerbo '27 drew a walk that put runners at the corners. Greg Kopp '25 chipped in an infield single that plated Rada and, after a wild pitch, Lucas Herman '26 singled to right and drove in DiCerbo. Henry Boehm '25 capped the rally with a two-run double to the gap in left-center field.
  • Hamilton grabbed a 7-6 lead in the sixth. Diaz led off with a walk, stole second and scored on a double to left center by Chester Boynton '27.
