Softball swept at Tufts, Guerra '27 gets career high three hits in Game 2

Mayer '26 broke up a no-hitter with a two-out triple in the seventh inning in the opener

MEDFORD, Mass. – Tufts University's starting pitchers allowed one run in 13 innings and the Jumbos swept a NESCAC doubleheader against the Hamilton College Continentals at Tufts' Spicer Field on Friday afternoon, April 25.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (14-10, 5-7 NESCAC) has dropped four of its last five games.
  • The Jumbos (21-13, 13-3) won their fifth straight and their ninth in the last 10.

Game 1 (Tufts wins, 4-0)

How It Happened

  • Tufts' Sophia DiCocco was one out away from a no-hitter, but Alexis Mayer '26 broke it up with a triple off the fence in center field in the top of the seventh inning.
  • The Jumbos scored three runs in the third and added an unearned run in the fifth.

Notes

  • Mayer has six triples, which is one off the program record that Jordan Merklin '26 set last year.
  • Alison Zorn '26, who led off the third with a walk, was the only other base runner for the Continentals.
  • Emma Tansky '25 (7-2) allowed three earned runs in four innings.
  • Aubrey Purvis '27 tossed two shutout innings in relief.
  • DiCocco (12-6) struck out seven and allowed just the one triple to Mayer.
  • Keriann Slayton drove in two runs, Madi Sewell singled twice and Heaven Oliva doubled.

Game 2 (Tufts wins, 2-1)

How It Happened

  • Hamilton grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fourth. Mayer led off with a line single to left field and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt. Charlie Quinn '25 hit a looping line drive off the tip of the leaping shortstop's glove into left-center field as Mayer advanced to third. Gaby Guerra '27 drove in Mayer with a ground ball that skidded through the left side along the infield dirt.
  • Tufts grabbed the lead in the fifth on a two-out, two-run single by Bela Jimenez.
  • The Continentals put the tying on third with two outs in the seventh, but the next batter grounded out to first base and ended the game.

Notes

  • Guerra went 3-for-3 as she tied her career high for hits in a game. Guerra is hitting .469 (15-for-32) in 15 contests.
  • Yael Everett '28 singled and pitched two shutout innings of relief.
  • Mayer is hitting .362 (25-for-69) and is second in the NESCAC with a .768 slugging percentage and fifth with a .477 on-base percentage.
  • Purvis (1-2) gave up two runs and two hits in four innings.
  • Lacy Chilek (5-0) surrendered a run on seven hits in six innings. Fallon O'Connor earned her fifth save with a scoreless seventh inning.
