MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Middlebury College plated the go-ahead run in the bottom of the seventh and the Panthers held on for a 3-2 NESCAC West Division win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Middlebury's Baseball/Softball Complex on Saturday afternoon, April 12.
Season Update
- Hamilton (10-13, 2-7 NESCAC West) split a doubleheader with the Panthers on Friday.
- Middlebury (15-10, 6-2) won five of its last six contests.
How It Happened
- After stranding two Continentals in the top of the first, the Panthers capitalized in the bottom half with two runs on a single, a hit batsman and a walk.
- Hamilton cut its deficit in half in the third inning, thanks to a leadoff blast by Alfonso Rada '27 that cleared the fence in left-center field.
- The Continentals tied the score in the top of the fifth. Rada stayed hot, ripping a one-out double to left field, and Greg Kopp '25 followed with a two-out double to right that drove in Rada.
- Hamilton escaped jams in the fifth and sixth innings, stranding two Panthers each time. Middlebury broke through in the seventh on another hit batter and a double. The winning run scored on a ground ball to the pitcher.
- In the eighth, the Continentals put together a promising rally with a leadoff single and a walk. They eventually loaded the bases on another walk with one out, but the next batter lined into a double play that ended the inning.
Notes
- Rada led the way for Hamilton with his second career home run and sixth double of the season.
- Kopp notched his fifth double of the year and drew two walks. He ranks second on the team with 22 hits.
- Gianni DiCerbo '27 extended his hit streak to four games with a single and walked twice.
- Michael Tallarida '26 recorded his 19th hit of the season.
- Ethan Righter '27 also picked up his 19th hit and got the start on the mound. Righter allowed two runs on three hits over 5.2 innings. He walked four and struck out three.
- Kyle McCausland doubled and drew two walks for the Panthers.
- Ben Slaughter and Joe Basso drove in one run apiece.
- Anthony Pellagrini, the Panthers' starting pitcher, gave up two runs on four hits over 4.2 innings. He also contributed at the plate with a single and a double.
- Stefano Yozzo (1-0) tossed 2.1 innings of one-hit relief with three walks and three strikeouts.
