MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Hamilton College's
Aden Soroca '27 and
Eddie Taylor '25 combined on a three-hitter in the Continentals' 3-2 win in Game 1, but they ended up splitting the NESCAC West Division doubleheader with the Middlebury College Panthers at Middlebury's Baseball/Softball Complex on Friday, April 11.
Season Update
- Hamilton (10-12, 2-6 NESCAC West) stopped a five-game skid with the victory in the opener.
- The Panthers (14-10, 5-2) rallied for an 8-7 win in Game 2. They have won four of their last five.
Game 1
How It Happened
- Gianni DiCerbo '27, who doubled in the top of the first for the Continentals, was the only baserunner for either team during the first two innings.
- Hamilton took a 2-0 lead in the third after everything started with two outs. Chester Boynton '27 singled to left field and moved to second base on a wild pitch. DiCerbo and Greg Kopp '25 drew walks and loaded the bases for Lucas Herman '26, who coaxed another free pass that scored Boynton. Henry Boehm '25 followed with an infield single to the right side and plated DiCerbo.
- The Continentals made it 3-0 in the fourth inning when three of the first four batters reached base. Ethan Righter '27 led off with a single to left and Louis Friedrich '28 walked. After a strikeout, Boynton singled to left and drove in Righter.
- Gus Parker pulled Middlebury within a run in the bottom of the inning on a two-out, two-run double.
- Soroca and Taylor shut it down the rest of the way as they retired the next 10 Panthers in order.
Notes
- Soroca (2-1) allowed to unearned runs on three hits in five innings. He has a 1.98 earned run average in 27.1 innings.
- Taylor tossed two perfect innings for his third save this season and fourth in his Hamilton career.
- Boynton finished with two hits for his third straight multi-hit game.
- Boehm singled twice for his third multi-hit contest this season.
- DiCerbo ended up 1-for-2 with two walks. The double was his third of 2025.
- Friedrich went 1-for-2 with a walk.
- Parker had two of Middlebury's three hits.
- Christian Zebrowski (3-3) allowed three runs on five hits and four walks in 3.1 innings and took the loss.
Game 2
How It Happened
- The Panthers scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and turned a 7-3 deficit into an 8-7 edge. The go-ahead run scored on a throwing error by the pitcher on a failed pickoff attempt.
- The Continentals owned leads of 5-0 in the second inning, 6-1 in the fourth and 7-2 in the sixth.
- Hamilton nearly tied it in the ninth when Righter and Friedrich started the inning with walks and Righter went to third on a wild pitch. The next batter tried to drive in Righter on a squeeze play, but the pitcher fielded the bunt and threw out Righter at home. The next two batters struck out to end the game.
Notes
- Herman singled twice and drove in two runs. It was his first multi-hit and multi-RBI game this season.
- Kopp plated two runs with a line-drive single to center in the second inning. He leads the team with 18 RBI.
- Boehm doubled, walked, was hit by a pitch and scored two runs. He extended his current hit streak to six games.
- Boynton singled and drew three walks. He's second in the NESCAC with a .414 batting average (29-for-70) and a .522 on-base percentage. Boynton is third with 18 walks.
- DiCerbo singled and is hitting .357 (20-for-56).
- Righter and Michael Tallarida '26 singled, walked twice and drove in a run.
- Alfonso Rada '27 singled and walked.
- Both teams walked 10 times.
- Relief pitcher Kenny Rix '25 (0-2) got one out in the seventh for the Continentals.
- Ben Slaughter went 4-for-4 with a triple for Middlebury. Nathan Samii drove in three runs and Carter Chi went 2-for-3 with two walks. Charlie Kutz pitched two scoreless innings of relief and picked up his fourth save.
- Hamilton has three one-run losses in West Division games.
