Softball splits NESCAC opener with Trinity, Mirabito ’26 hits grand slam

Tansky ’25 picked up her fourth win in the circle in Game 1 for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Lydia Mirabito '26 launched a walk-off grand slam in Game 1 and the Continentals split a NESCAC doubleheader with the Trinity College Bantams at Hamilton's Loop Road Athletic Complex on Friday afternoon, March 28.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (9-3, 1-1 NESCAC) won the opener 12-1 in a game that was shortened to five innings by the eight-run mercy rule.
  • The Bantams (5-6, 1-1) took the lead in the fifth inning of Game and went on to an 8-6 victory.

Game 1

How It Happened

  • The Bantams scored their only run in the first inning but left three runners stranded after Emma Tansky '25 recorded back-to-back strikeouts.
  • Hamilton responded swiftly by plating two runs in the bottom half. Tansky displayed her speed with an infield bunt single and stole second, and Alexis Mayer '26 worked a walk. Charlie Quinn '25 ripped a double down the left field line that drove in both Tansky and Mayer for the 2-1 lead.
  • The Continentals broke the game open with five runs in the second inning. Gaby Guerra '27 led off with a single through the left side and Hadley Rogers '26 was hit by a pitch. Tansky advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt down the third base line. With two runners in scoring position, Gabby Garrison '27 drove in Guerra with a single to center field, and Mayer brought Rogers home with a single down the left field line. The inning continued as Alison Zorn '26 was hit by a pitch and Quinn smacked an RBI single to left-center field. With two outs, Miranda Mosqueda '28 crushed a double to left that brought in two more runs and extended the lead to 7-1.
  • Neither team scored in the third, but the Continentals added another run in the fourth. Mirabito pinch-hit with one out and smacked a single to left field, and Jordan Merklin '26 doubled to center. After Mosqueda '28 loaded the bases with an infield single to third, Gaby Guerra '27 drew a walk that allowed Mirabito to cross the plate.
  • The Continentals were one run away from the eight-run mercy rule, but they scored four instead. Garrison and Mayer hit one-out singles to left, and Nikki Dyche '28 worked a walk. With the table fully set, Mirabito crushed a pitch in the zone and launched it over the left field fence for a walk-off grand slam.
