BRUNSWICK, Maine – Bowdoin College's Patrick Fitzgerald scored seven goals and the Polar Bears defeated the Hamilton College Continentals 13-5 in a NESCAC game at Bowdoin's Whittier Field on Friday, March 28.
Season Update
- Hamilton (3-5, 1-4 NESCAC) lost to a ranked team for the fourth time.
- The ninth-ranked Polar Bears (8-1, 4-1) were playing for the third time in the last six days.
How It Happened
- Justin Pearl '25 gave the Continentals a 1-0 lead on a man-up goal 1:47 into the first quarter. Bowdoin scored the next five goals and led the rest of the way.
- Huck Trafton tied the score with 10:50 left in the first. Neither team found the back of the net again until the last five minutes of the second quarter when the Polar Bears notched three goals before halftime.
- Jed Hoggard made it 5-1 just 18 seconds into the third quarter.
- Pearl scored 59 seconds later – nearly 30 minutes after his first goal – and pulled Hamilton within 5-2. The Continentals didn't get closer than three goals during the second half.
- Bowdoin owned a 9-3 advantage after three quarters. Fitzgerald scored the Polar Bears' last six goals including all four in the fourth quarter.
Notes
- Pearl finished with two goals for his fourth multi-goal game this season.
- Thomas Healy '26 also scored twice and leads Hamilton with 16.
- Frank Coyle '26 added a goal and an assist. Coyle tops the Continentals with nine assists and 21 points.
- Jake Mair '25 caused two turnovers and is third in the NESCAC with 14.
- Reece Hickey '26 won five faceoffs and scooped up four ground balls. Hickey and Healy are tied for the team lead with 26 ground balls.
- Jack Fried '25 made a season-high 19 saves including eight in the second quarter.
- Jason Lach had four points on a goal and three assists for Bowdoin. Lach also collected five ground balls.
- Beau Burns won 13-of-19 faceoffs and picked up a game-high seven ground balls.
- Robert Hobbs stopped 17 shots for the Polar Bears.
- In the second quarter Bowdoin held a 19-6 shot advantage and registered 11 ground balls to Hamilton's five.
