MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Hamilton College battled to a 6-5 win in eight innings in Game 1 and the Continentals earned a split in their NESCAC West Division doubleheader against the Wesleyan University Cardinals at Wesleyan's Dresser Diamond on Saturday, March 29.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (9-7, 1-2 NESCAC West) has played 16 contests in the last 15 days.

Game 1

How It Happened

  • Hamilton owned a 2-0 lead after scoring runs in the first and second innings, but the Cardinals evened the score with two runs in the bottom of the second.
  • The Continentals extended their scoring streak with a run in the third inning, sparked by a leadoff walk by Michael Tallarida '26 and a single to left by Gianni DiCerbo '27. Lucas Herman '26 delivered a run-scoring single to right field that gave Hamilton a 3-2 lead.
  • The Cardinals answered with three runs in the bottom half and moved ahead 5-3.
  • Hamilton scored two runs in the fifth inning. Greg Kopp '25 led off with a walk and came around to score when DiCerbo hammered a double to the gap in left-center field. With one out, Henry Boehm '25 advanced DiCerbo to third with an infield single, and Louis Friedrich '28 tied the score with a sacrifice fly to left field.
  • After scoreless sixth and seventh innings, Hamilton found the game-winning run in the eighth. Chester Boynton '27 drew a one-out walk, stole second and advanced to third on the throw. Kopp delivered a clutch single through the right side that brought Boynton home for the 6-5 edge.

Notes

  • Boynton helped Hamilton at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a single, double, and two walks. He scored two runs and stole a base.
  • DiCerbo posted a career-high three hits, including his second double of the season.
  • Herman notched his eighth RBI of the season.
  • Tallarida reached base three times on two walks and a hit by pitch.

Game 2

How It Happened

  • The Continentals took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. After Righter walked with one out, Tallarida followed with a double to left field and Hamilton had two runners in scoring position. Kopp brought Righter across with a sacrifice fly to center and DiCerbo drove in Tallarida with a single to the gap in left-center field.
  • The Cardinals left the bases loaded in the bottom of the first but responded with three runs in the second inning for the 3-2 edge.
