Baseball falls in NESCAC West Division opener at Wesleyan, 6-3

Boehm '25 finished with two hits and a walk for the Continentals

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Wesleyan University scored four runs in the second inning and the Cardinals went on to a 6-3 NESCAC West Division win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Wesleyan's Dresser Diamond on Friday, March 28.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (8-6, 0-1 NESCAC West) has dropped three of its last four games.
  • The Cardinals (6-8, 1-0) have alternated wins and losses for the past seven contests.

How It Happened

  • The Continentals took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Gianni DiCerbo '27 was hit by a pitch with one out and Henry Boehm '25 singled to center field. DiCerbo came around to score from second base on an errant throw to first when the next batter hit a ground ball to the shortstop and Wesleyan tried to complete a double play.
  • The Cardinals took the lead in the bottom of the inning with four runs on two hits, two walks and a fielding error.
  • Hamilton pulled within 4-2 in the fourth inning when Michael Tallarida '26 led off with a single up the middle and later scored on a fielder's choice.
  • Wesleyan went up 6-2 in the fifth on a two-run double by James Marsden.
  • The Continentals tried to rally in the eighth inning when the Cardinals finally went to their bullpen. DiCerbo laid down a bunt single to lead off the inning and Boehm walked. Pinch-hitter Lucas Herman '26 drove in DiCerbo with a one-out single up the middle and Chester Boynton '27 loaded the bases with a single to left with two outs. With the tying run on base, the next batter flied out to end the inning.

Notes

  • Boehm went 2-for-4 with a walk. He has at least one hit in his last six games and is hitting .500 (9-for-18) for the season.
  • DiCerbo reached base three times and scored twice. He's scored five runs in his last three games.
  • Tallarida finished 1-for-3 with two walks. He leads the team with 11 walks and is second with a .500 on-base percentage.
