DAVENPORT, Fla. – Elmhurst University's Rock Smith hit a grand slam in the sixth inning and drove in five runs in the Bluejays' 11-1 non-conference win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Northeast Regional Park on Wednesday, March 26.
Season Update
- Hamilton (8-5 overall) wrapped up its 13-game Florida trip. The Continentals have alternated wins and losses for the past six contests.
- Elmhurst (6-12) had dropped its previous four games.
How It Happened
- The Bluejays scored a run in the top of the first but Hamilton got it back in the bottom of the inning. Henry Boehm '25 smacked a two-out double to right field and scored on a single to center by Greg Kopp '25.
- It was all Elmhurst after that. The Bluejays took the lead for good with a four-run third inning and went up 9-1 on Smith's grand slam with two outs in the sixth.
- Elmhurst added single runs in the eighth and ninth innings on solo homers by Logan Bryant and Evan Johnson.
Notes
- Kopp went 2-for-2 and extended his hit streak to seven games.
- Boehm has at least one hit in his last five games. He's 7-for-14 with a .786 slugging percentage.
- Alfonso Rada '27 hammered his third double this season.
- Chester Boynton '27 singled and leads the Continentals with a .500 batting average (19-38) and 14 runs scored.
- Lucas Herman '26 and Jeremy Diaz '27 added singles. Diaz posted his third hit this season.
- Luke Beyer '27 (1-1) pitched to five batters in the third inning and took the loss.
Next Game
Hamilton begins its NESCAC West Division schedule on Friday, March 28 at Wesleyan University (5-8). First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
