Baseball wins big in nightcap, posts doubleheader split with Lawrence

Boynton ’27 finished 4-for-4 at the plate in second game for the Continentals

DAVENPORT, Fla. – Hamilton College's Henry Boehm '25 tripled and doubled as the Continentals split a non-conference doubleheader with the Lawrence University Vikings at Northeast Regional Park on Tuesday, March 25. 
 

Season Update

  • The Continentals (8-4 overall) dropped the seven-inning opener 7-6 before they bounced back with a convincing 12-2 victory in the nightcap. Hamilton is back in action with a single nine-inning, non-conference game against Elmhurst University on Wednesday, March 26 at 10 a.m. at Northeast Regional Park. 

Game 1

 

How It Happened

  • The Continentals took a 2-0 lead with runs in the second and third innings, but Lawrence tied the score in the bottom of the third.
  • Hamilton answered with two runs in the fourth inning for a 4-2 lead. Quinn Perkins '25 drew a one-out walk and Jeremy Diaz '27 reached on a fielding error. Chester Boynton '27 walked and set the stage for Ethan Righter '27, who delivered a two-run single through the left side.
  • The Vikings responded with three runs in the bottom half and moved in front for good at 5-4. 
  • Lawrence stretched its lead to 7-4 with a pair of insurance runs in the sixth inning. 
  • Hamilton made a final push in the seventh. Things looked promising as Gianni DiCerbo '27 led off with a single, Lucas Herman '26 walked and Boehm laced a double to left field that brought home DiCerbo. With one out, Boynton made it a one-run game with a sacrifice fly, but the next batter struck out and ended the Continentals' comeback hopes. 

Notes

  • Righter drove in a team-best two runs on his 13th hit of the season.
  • DiCerbo added a single and a walk and scored twice.
  • Boehm ripped his first career double. 
  • Michael Tallarida '26 and Alfonso Rada '27 singled. 
  • Greg Kopp '25 singled and walked. Kopp has 109 career hits.
  • TJ Takis '26 paced Hamilton's pitching staff, recording three strikeouts over the first three innings. Takis allowed two hits and two unearned runs.

Game 2

 

How It Happened

  • The Continentals wasted no time, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Boynton led off with a single to right, Tallarida drew a walk, and Boehm drove in both runners with a triple to left. DiCerbo extended the lead with a single through the left side and Carter Chambers '25 brought him home with a two-out single to center.
  • After leaving two runners stranded in the second and third innings, Lawrence pushed a run across in the top of the fourth.
  • The Continentals answered in the bottom half when Diaz drew a leadoff walk and Boynton and Boehm delivered singles. Boehm's RBI came with two outs.
  • Hamilton extended its lead with a five-run outburst in the fifth inning. After the Continentals loaded the bases on three walks with one out, Herman reached on an error and forced in a run. Boynton delivered his second run-scoring single of the game and Tallarida cleared the bases with a double to left field for a 10-1 advantage.
  • Hamilton extended its advantage in the sixth, highlighted by a two-run single to left by Perkins. 

Notes

  • Boynton went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a walk and two runs. He is hitting .514 with a .657 slugging percentage through 12 games.
  • Boehm batted in three runs on two hits, including his first career triple. 
  • Tallarida leads the team with six doubles and is second with 11 runs batted in.
  • Perkins entered the season with three career RBI and has five in 2025. 
  • DiCerbo is hitting .357 (10-for-28) while Chambers drove in his first run this season.
  • Diaz drew a team-best three walks. 
  • Liam Rose '26 (1-0) earned his first win, tossing two scoreless innings and allowing two hits and one walk with three strikeouts. Rose hasn't allowed a run in 6.2 innings.
  • The Continentals' pitching staff racked up a total of 10 strikeouts, with Mark Kovach '28 and Henry Tyler '25 striking out two in 1.2 innings of work apiece.
  • Hamilton received seven hits and seven RBI from the top three spots in its lineup.
  • The Continentals have won three of the five matchups with Lawrence since 2016.
