CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's
Jesse Delinsky '26 posted a season-high five points and the Continentals pulled away in the fourth quarter in their 10-5 NESCAC win against the Colby College Mules at Hamilton's Steuben Field on Saturday afternoon, March 22.
Season Update
- The Continentals (2-4, 1-3 NESCAC) had dropped their previous three games – all against ranked opponents.
- Colby (1-4, 0-4) was held to a season-low five goals.
How It Happened
- Hamilton took a 2-0 lead on goals by Frank Coyle '26 and Will Heher '25 just 63 seconds apart early in the first quarter.
- The Mules tied the score before the end of the quarter.
- Delinsky put the Continentals back in front for good 66 seconds into the second quarter, and Thomas Healy '26 made it 4-2 with 3:55 left.
- Hamilton was hit with a two-minute, non-releasable penalty for cross-checking with 3:39 remaining and Colby took advantage. Gavin Rothenberg scored a man-up goal 23 seconds later and pulled the Mules within 4-3.
- The Continentals claimed the ensuing faceoff on a violation and were able to run out most of the rest of the penalty time before handing possession back to Colby when the shot clock expired. Hamilton took its one-goal edge into the break.
- The Continentals grabbed a 6-3 advantage after a goal by Justin Pearl '25 with 12:51 to go in the third quarter and Delinsky's second tally with 8:48 left.
- Hamilton still couldn't shake the Mules as they scored twice late in the third and trailed 6-5 going into the final 15 minutes.
- The Continentals clamped down in the fourth quarter as Colby put just two shots on goal, but they didn't pull away until late.
- Delinsky scored on a shot from the right side less than 10 yards out after a fine individual effort with 11:38 remaining. Hamilton made it 8-5 with 7:34 to go. Coyle tracked down a loose ball behind the goal and passed to Zach Lucchini '25, who took a couple steps forward and scored on a shot from the left wing.
- Pearl finally clinched the win with his goal on a shot from about 15 yards out after a pass from Delinsky with 2:50 left. Healy put an exclamation point on the first conference victory on his goal into an empty net with 49.3 seconds remaining as the Mules scrambled on defense and double-teamed players trying to force a turnover.
Notes
- Delinsky finished with three goals and two assists and tied a career high with five ground balls.
- Coyle had a goal, two helpers and a career-best seven ground balls. He leads the team with 19 points on 11 goals and eight assists.
- Healy and Pearl scored two goals apiece. Healy is tied with Coyle for the team lead with 11 goals. He also scooped up five ground balls and tops the Continentals with 22.
- Heher has scored a goal in five straight games.
- Lucchini notched his first goal this season.
- Wyatt Estepp '27 chipped in an assist and is second on the team with six.
- Troy Pollock '25 dished out his second assist.
- Jake Mair '25 caused five turnovers for the second time in the last three games and picked up four ground balls. He leads Hamilton with 12 caused turnovers.
- Sean Gebauer '25 won a career-high 11-of-15 faceoffs.
- Jayme Wilde '25 tied a season high with five ground balls.
- Jack Fried '25 made seven saves.
- Rothenberg had a hand in all five Colby goals with two scores and three assists.
- Justin Turley won seven faceoffs and collected four ground balls. Jackson Alvord also had four ground balls. Will Heisler stopped 13 shots.
- The Continentals dominated the stat sheet but especially so in the second quarter when they held a 21-3 shot advantage, corralled 16 ground balls to the Mules' seven, and won all four faceoffs.
- Hamilton extended its win streak to five in the series against Colby.
