Women’s lacrosse clipped after No. 5 Colby scores four straight in third

Stonestreet ’25, Leifer ’26, Cleary ’25 and Lee ’27 scored two goals each for the Continentals

WATERVILLE, Maine – Colby College's Julia Jardina scored four goals and the Mules held off the Hamilton College Continentals for an 11-9 NESCAC win at Colby's Bill Alfond Field on Saturday, March 22. 
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton (2-4, 0-4 NESCAC) has three losses against ranked teams.
  • The Mules (6-0, 4-0) are ranked fifth in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Division III Top 25 poll.  

How It Happened

  • Hamilton struck first 3:02 into the first quarter on a goal by Aine Cleary '25. Colby tied the score 62 seconds later but the Continentals moved back in front on a goal by Sarah Stonestreet '25 with 2:25 remaining in the first. The Mules responded with three goals in the final two minutes, including one by Jardina with a second left that made it 3-2.
  • Both teams scored three goals in the second quarter. Hamilton didn't get closer than two goals and Colby held a 7-5 lead at halftime.
  • The Continentals made their move early in the third quarter with two goals one minute apart. Maddigan Leifer '26 found the net just 38 seconds into the third, followed by a woman-up goal by Julia Lee '27 that leveled the score at 7-7.
  • The Mules answered with four consecutive goals for an 11-7 advantage with 4:34 to go in the third. The Continentals fired back with two goals in the last three minutes of the quarter, but Colby held on as neither team scored in the fourth.

Notes

  • Cleary finished with three points on two goals and an assist. She has scored five goals in the last two games. 
  • Stonestreet recorded her first multi-goal game of the season with two goals. 
  • Leifer, who ended up with two goals, has netted at least two in four straight games.
  • Lee registered her fourth multi-goal game of the season with two goals and leads Hamilton with 13 goals and 16 points. 
  • Orlando paced the Continentals with four draw controls and three ground balls. 
  • Goldsmith scored her fourth goal for the Continentals.
  • Clara Paolucci '28 registered a season-high 10 saves for Hamilton.
  • Jardina added an assist and three draw controls.
  • Charlotte Michener contributed three goals and an assist for the Mules.
  • Ainsley Burke added three goals. 
  • Ainsley Dion and Kat Munter recorded four draw controls apiece. 
  • Jillian Kane started in goal for Colby and made six saves in 45 minutes. Gigi Peloso played the third quarter and allowed four goals on four shots..

Next Game

  • The Continentals face off against Bowdoin College (4-4, 0-4) in another NESCAC matchup on Saturday, March 29 at noon on Steuben Field.
