Softball drops a pair of non-conference games in Florida

The Continentals finished their trip down south with an 8-2 record

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Hamilton College Continentals wrapped up their final day at the USSSA Space Coast Games with an 8-5 loss against University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in the opener and a 10-1 setback against Millikin University in the second contest.

Season Update

Hamilton (8-2 overall) kicks off conference play with a doubleheader against Trinity College (3-4) at Loop Road Athletic Complex on Saturday, March 29 beginning at noon.

Wisconsin-Eau Claire

How It Happened

  • The Continentals took the lead with a run in the first inning. Sofia Santana '26 led off with a walk and Emma Tansky '25 reached on a fielding error. Charlie Quinn '25 worked a tough 12-pitch at-bat that ended with her lining a single up the middle and loading the bases. With the table set, Alison Zorn '26 hit a slow roller to shortstop for an infield single that allowed Santana to cross the plate. UWEC answered with two runs in the bottom of the first.
  • Hamilton responded in the top of the second with two runs. Hadley Rogers '26 led off with a single up the middle and Ella Heftved '25 advanced her into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Tansky dropped down a bunt single that put runners on the corners and Alexis Mayer '26 laced a two-strike RBI single to the left-center field gap. A throwing error on a ground ball in the infield allowed Tansky to cross the plate for a 3-2 edge. The Blugolds tied the score in the bottom of the second with another run.
  • The Continentals countered once again in the top of the third on an inside-the-park home run by Miranda Mosqueda '28 down the right-field line. The right fielder misjudged the ball's speed and Mosqueda was all gas, no breaks as she sprinted around the bases for a 4-3 lead.
  • Wisconsin-Eau Claire took control in the fourth inning with five runs for an 8-4 advantage.
  • Hamilton stranded a runner on base in the fifth and sixth innings before scoring its fifth run in the top of the seventh. Mayer drew a leadoff walk and with two outs, Nikki Dyche '28 came in as a pinch hitter and brought Mayer home with a single up the middle.

Notes

  • Rogers notched her second multi-hit game of the season, finishing with two hits.
  • Tansky scored a run for the fifth straight game and recorded two singles.
  • Mosqueda posted her first collegiate home run.
  • The Blugolds (13-2) are Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference members.
  • Paige Lathrop drove in two runs and went 4-for-4 with a double.
  • Molly Marquardt singled, doubled, walked and had two RBI.

Millikin

How It Happened

  • Following two scoreless innings, Millikin grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third.
  • Millkin widened its lead late with three runs in the sixth frame and five in the seventh for a 10-0.
  • Hamilton scored its only run in the bottom of the seventh when Dyche drew a leadoff walk, moved up on two wild pitches, and scored on a ground ball to third base.
