Men's lacrosse drops 2025 season opener at Bates, 14-8

Coyle '26 and Kraus '28 paced the Continentals' offense with three points apiece

LEWISTON, Maine – Bates College jumped out to a five-goal lead late in the first quarter and the Bobcats went on to a 14-8 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Bates' Garcelon Field on Saturday afternoon, March 1.
 

Season Update

  • Saturday's game was the 2025 season opener for Hamilton, which was receiving votes in the U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division III Top 20 poll.
  • The Bobcats (3-0, 1-0 NESCAC) have scored at least 12 goals in all three of their games this season.
 

How It Happened

  • Bates led 3-0 less than four minutes in, 6-1 after the first quarter, 9-2 at the half and 14-3 after three quarters.
  • The Continentals outscored the Bobcats 5-0 during the final 15 minutes. Hamilton received goals from five different players during the fourth quarter.
 

Notes

  • Frank Coyle '26 finished with two goals and an assist for the Continentals.
  • Carson Kraus '28 also ended up with two goals and a helper in his first collegiate contest.
  • Evan deBerjeois '27 passed out two assists for his first multi-assist game at Hamilton.
  • Long-stick midfielder Jayme Wilde '25, who missed last season with an injury, scored his first goal since 2023.
  • Maddux Little '27, Jesse Delinsky '26 and Thomas Healy '26 added one goal each. Healy picked up five ground balls and caused two turnovers.
  • Jack Fried '25, who was an all-American in 2024, made 14 saves.
  • Riley McClure led Bates with three goals and an assist, and Connor Hartman collected four points on two goals and two assists.
  • Miles Schmidt won 20-of-23 faceoffs and gathered 12 ground balls.
  • Ben Miller led all players with four caused turnovers.
  • Andrew Toland stopped 10 shots in 55-plus minutes in goal.
  • In the first quarter, the Bobcats had a 16-6 shot advantage, scooped up 17 ground balls to four for the Continentals, and won 6-of-8 faceoffs.
  • Bates recorded its first win against Hamilton since 2019.
 

Next Game

The Continentals play their 2025 home opener against local rival Utica University (0-1) at Withiam Field on Tuesday, March 4 at 5 p.m.
