Women’s hockey takes down Bowdoin in NESCAC quarterfinals

Continentals advance to the semifinals for the sixth straight season

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Hamilton College's Lisa Ito-Bagshaw '25 scored the game-winning goal with 4:39 left in the second period and the Continentals edged the Bowdoin College Polar Bears 2-1 in a 2025 NESCAC Women's Hockey Championship quarterfinal inside Bowdoin's Sidney J. Watson Arena on Saturday afternoon, March 1.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (12-11-2 overall), which is the No. 5 seed for the championship, advances to the conference semifinals at Amherst College on Saturday, March 8.
  • Nationally ranked No. 15 Bowdoin (16-8-0) was the fourth seed for the championship. The Polar Bears had won three straight entering the weekend.

How It Happened

  • The Polar Bears capitalized on an early power-play opportunity and opened the scoring at 5:51 of the first period. Luna Lu scored off a rebound with assists by Gia Massari and Emma Merrill.
  • Hamilton had its only power play of the afternoon with 8:48 remaining in the second period, but Bowdoin successfully killed it. Moments after the penalty expired, the Continentals evened the score. Following an initial shot attempt, Jamie Porter '28 corralled the loose puck near the left corner and passed it to Ali Joseph '25. Joseph carried the puck around the boards and sent it to the point from the right faceoff circle. Cuora Sullivan '26 took the pass and fired a shot that Porter deflected just outside the crease, tying the score with 6:39 left in the second.
  • Ito-Bagshaw put Hamilton ahead two minutes later. The Continentals moved the puck through center ice and Grace Crowley '26 sent it deep into Bowdoin's defensive zone. Lilly Truchon '26 fought for possession in the corner and passed the puck around the end boards. Ito-Bagshaw quickly moved to the puck, made a sharp turn, and fired a shot from the left faceoff circle that beat Bowdoin goaltender Sarah Peterson.
  • The Polar Bears weren't able to trade Peterson for an extra skater until there were just 15 seconds remaining. They were unable to get a shot off before time ran out.
