CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's
Devon de Vries '27 scored with 27.2 seconds left in the third period and lifted the Continentals into a 3-3 NESCAC tie with the Colby College Mules inside Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 8.
Season Update
- The eighth-ranked Continentals (15-4-1, 11-2-1 NESCAC) won the shootout 1-0 and picked up two points in the conference standings. Hamilton still leads the NESCAC by five points over Trinity College, which is in second place.
- Colby (11-5-4, 6-5-3) has lost once in its last five games.
How It Happened
- The Continentals trailed 3-2 late in the third and had pulled their goaltender for a sixth skater. Max Bulawka '26, who was above the right faceoff circle, took a pass from Luke Tchor '27 and sent a wrist shot towards the net. The puck bounced off either a defenseman or the goaltender and popped loose to de Vries at the left post where he stuffed it into the back of the net.
- The Mules dominated the 3-on-3, five-minute, sudden-victory overtime period with eight shot attempts including five on goal, but Charlie Archer '25 kept everything in front of him and the teams went to a shootout.
- Each team had three attempts to score in the shootout. The first two skaters came up empty for both teams and that set the stage for Hamilton defenseman James Philpott '25, who beat the goaltender on his glove side inside the right post. Archer stopped the last attempt and touched off a wild celebration around his net.
- Colby took a 2-0 lead on a power-play goal by Will Molson at 6:48 of the first period and another power-play tally by Bobby Landry 7:56 into the second period.
- The Continentals responded with two goals later in the second. Alex Danis '26, who was positioned in front of the goaltender, tipped a wrist shot from the point by Nick Kent '27 in midair with 8:55 remaining. Danis' goal came with seven seconds left on a power play.
- Jackson Krock '26 tied the score with 5:04 to go after Hamilton rushed the puck up the ice out of its defensive zone. Tchor passed to William Neault '25 above the left faceoff circle and Neault skated to the bottom of the circle. Neault passed the puck back to Krock into the slot and he redirected it past the goaltender.
- The Mules took the lead again with 6:08 left in the third period on a shot from the blue line by Alex Keskintepe after Colby won an offensive zone faceoff.
