Women’s basketball tops Tufts by 18 after big run in second quarter

Harris '27 posted a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Kendall Harris '27 tallied 18 points and 11 rebounds as the Continentals outlasted the Tufts University Jumbos, 72-54, in NESCAC action on Hamilton's Coach Tom Murphy Court inside Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Saturday, Feb. 8. 
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton (15-7, 4-4 NESCAC) picked up its second straight conference win.
  • Tufts (14-8, 5-4) has won one of its five NESCAC road games this season.  

How It Happened

  • With the score tied at 7-7, the Jumbos went on a 7-0 run for a 14-7 lead with 3:17 left in the opening quarter.
  • The Continentals finished the final 2:36 with a 7-2 run. Althea Hill '26 was fouled beyond the arc and sank all three free throws, and Taylor Lambo '26 added a layup. Annabelle Semeter '28 chased down an offensive rebound and knocked down a jumper that cut the Continentals' deficit to just two points at 16-14 with four seconds remaining. 
  • Abbey Schwoebel '27 opened the second quarter with two free throws and tied the score at 16-16. After giving up the next basket, Hamilton answered with six straight points for a 22-18 lead with 7:51 remaining and led the rest of the afternoon.
  • The Continentals fed off the energy of the home crowd, igniting a 12-0 run that gave them a commanding 34-21 lead with 46 seconds remaining in the half. Sam Glickman '25 kicked off the surge with a three-pointer that was assisted by Tessa Cole '25. Harris contributed seven of the 12 points and capped the run with a classic three-point play.
  • Harris drained a pull-up three-pointer with just 12 seconds left and extended Hamilton's lead to 14 points at 37-23 as they headed into halftime.
  • Cole, Hill and Schwoebel accounted for six straight points and pushed the lead to 45-30 with just under five minutes remaining in the third quarter. The Continentals led 51-38 going into the final 10 minutes.
  • The Jumbos scored the first six points of the fourth quarter and closed the gap to 51-44 with 7:42 to go.
  • Harris scored the next six points, highlighted by a step-back, mid-range jumper from the right wing after crossing up her defender. Harris' highlight-reel basket extended the Continentals' lead to 13 points at 57-44 with 4:11 remaining. 
  • Hamilton went 13-for-14 at the free-throw line in the final 2:15 and sealed the crucial conference victory. 

Notes

  • Hamilton played its last home game of the regular season and honored Glickman, Cole and Abigael Morin '25 before tip-off.
  • Harris posted her fourth double-double this season and added two blocked shots. She is fifth in the conference in scoring with 16.1 points per game. 
  • Lambo finished with 13 points and a game-high four assists. 
  • Glickman tallied 12 points in her first career start. 
  • Hill registered nine points off the bench. 
  • Schwoebel chipped in seven points, Semeter had six and Cole added five. 
  • Tufts' Monet Witherspoon led all players with 23 points.
  • Sofia Gonzalez recorded nine points and two steals before she fouled out. 
  • Caitlyn O'Boyle gathered a team-best nine boards including five on the offensive glass. 
  • The Continentals shot 51.1 percent (23-45) from the floor and 85.2 percent (23-27) at the line. 
  • Tufts shot 30.1 percent (22-73) from the field including 5-of-27 from beyond the arc. 
  • Hamilton was 8-of-12 on field goal attempts and a perfect 5-for-5 at the line in the second quarter.
  • The Jumbos grabbed 18 offensive rebounds and held an 18-7 advantage in second-chance points. 
  • The Continentals have won their last two home games in the series with Tufts.

Next Game

The Continentals travel to Williamstown, Mass., for a NESCAC road game at Williams College (13-9, 3-5) on Friday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m.
