No. 11 men's hockey drops regular season finale at Middlebury, 4-2

Teams combined to score five goals in a wild third period

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Middlebury College's Jackson Morehouse scored two goals and added an assist in the Panthers' 4-2 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals inside Middlebury's Chip Kenyon '85 Arena on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 22.

Season Update

  • Nationally ranked No. 11 Hamilton (17-6-1, 13-4-1 NESCAC) is the No. 1 seed for the NESCAC championship. The Continentals had won their previous nine road games.
  • The Panthers (12-11-1, 8-9-1) ended up in seventh place in the conference standings and will play at Trinity College in a NESCAC quarterfinal on Saturday, March 1.

How It Happened

  • Middlebury's Jin Lee scored an unassisted short-handed goal with 2:09 left in the first period, and the score remained 1-0 into the early stages of the third period.
  • Alex Danis '26 tied the score 4:06 into the third. Max Bulawka '26 passed the puck across the low slot from right to left to Danis, who snapped a wrist shot just inside the left post.
  • A power-play tally by Luke Tchor '27 at 8:18 put Hamilton up 2-1. James Philpott '25 sent a pass from the right faceoff circle to Tchor in the low slot for the one-timer into an open net.
  • The Continentals' lead was short-lived as Dante Palombo drew the Panthers even 1:27 later with a power-play goal.
  • Morehouse put Middlebury in front for good with 7:56 remaining and added an insurance goal on the power play with 37.6 seconds to go.
  • Any thoughts by Hamilton of pulling the goaltender for an extra skater ended shortly after the ensuing faceoff when one of the Continentals was sent to the penalty box for slashing.
  • Hamilton's Ben Zimmerman '26 put a shot on net just before the final horn sounded, but goaltender Andrew Heinze made the stop.
