Men’s basketball rallies past Bowdoin, Morgan ’25 nets 25

Continentals shot 50 percent from the floor in third straight win

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Hamilton College's Hank Morgan '25 led all players with 25 points and the Continentals posted a 75-70 NESCAC win against the Bowdoin College Polar Bears inside Bowdoin's Morrell Gymnasium on Friday, Jan. 31. 
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton (15-4, 3-2 NESCAC), which is receiving votes in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, won its third straight game. 
  • Bowdon (10-9, 0-5) lost for the sixth time in its last seven contests. 

How It Happened

  • Hamilton trailed 69-68 late in the second half, but Teja Singh '25 hit a timely jumper that put the Continentals ahead 70-69 with 2:25 left.
  • Bowdoin missed from beyond the arc and committed a turnover and, following a Hamilton timeout, Matthew Rideout '27 drained a clutch three-pointer that extended the Continentals' lead to 73-69 with 55 seconds remaining.
  • The Polar Bears' Afamdi Achufusi went 1-for-2 at the free-throw line. Morgan grabbed the defensive rebound and was fouled, but missed the front end of the one-and-one. 
  • Bowdoin missed a three-point attempt with nine seconds remaining, but Nolan Bessire secured the offensive rebound. The Continentals' defense stepped up by forcing a pivotal turnover as Morgan intercepted the ball and sealed the win with two free throws.
  • Bowdoin raced out to a 12-4 advantage with 15:24 remaining in the first half on four three-pointers.
  • The Continentals surged with a swift 7-0 run, sparked by a three-point play by Garret Keyhani '26 and capped off with a dunk by Jalen Reese '27 that tied the score at 15-15 with 12:03 remaining.
  • Down by four at 24-20, Morgan went on a seven-point run that put Hamilton ahead 27-24 with 4:21 remaining.
  • The Polar Bears kept it tight, leveling the score at 27-27 and later pulling within one point twice. The Continentals finished the half strong with a 10-3 run for a 42-35 lead at the break.
  • Bowdoin took off on a 10-2 run that erased a seven-point deficit and gave it a 57-56 edge with 9:27 remaining in the second half.

Notes

  • Morgan leads the conference in scoring with 21.6 points per game. He added a team-high eight rebounds. Morgan poured in 19 points in the first half as he was 6-of-6 from the floor and 5-for-5 at the line.
  • Keyhani contributed 13 points while Singh had 12. 
  • Rideout netted 10 points off the bench. 
  • Reese added six points.
  • Ray Cuevas led Bowdoin with 18 points. 
  • James McGowan registered 12 points. 
  • Bessire chipped in nine points and grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass. 
  • Will Logue tallied eight points and three assists.
  • The Continentals finished at 50 percent (28-56) from the floor, and 83.3 percent (15-18) at the charity stripe. 
  • Bowdoin shot 38.8 percent (19-49) from the field, but was 9-of-20 from beyond the arc. The Polar Bears went 23-for-30 at the line. 
  • Hamilton tallied 42 points in the paint to Bowdoin's 18. 
  • The Continentals held a commanding 20-3 advantage in points off turnovers.
  • The second half featured 10 lead changes and five ties.

Next Game

Hamilton wraps up its Maine trip with another NESCAC contest at Colby College (13-6, 4-1) on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 3 p.m.
