Marymount pulls away from men’s basketball in second half

Rideout ’27 scored in double figures for the seventh time this season

ARLINGTON, Va. –  Marymount University used a 23-7 extended second-half run and the Saints pulled away from the Hamilton College Continentals for a 63-43 non-conference win inside Marymount's Converse Family Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 6.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (2-6 overall) dropped its fifth straight game, four of which have been on the road.
  • Marymount (2-7), which is a member of the Atlantic East Conference, snapped a five-game skid.
 

How It Happened

  • Hamilton tied the score at 28-28 with 16:26 remaining in the second half following a contested putback by David Melson '29.
  • Marymount went on a quick 5-0 burst, leading to a Hamilton timeout at the 15:39 mark. The Continentals scored the next four points via a strong drive and finish by Jalen Reese '27 and two free throws by Matthew Rideout '27 with 14:16 remaining.
  • The Saints put together an 18-4 run over the next 6:56 of game action for a 51-36 lead.
  • Hamilton cut its deficit to 13 with 5:54 remaining and 14 with 2:11 remaining, but Marymount responded with 5-0 bursts on both occasions.
  • Hamilton shot 0-of-10 from 3-point range during the second half and 3-of-24 total.
  • The final 20-point margin represented Marymount's largest lead following two made free throws with 14 seconds remaining.
  • Marymount's Anthoney McClary scored 11 of his game-high 16 points during the second half.
  • The first half featured five lead changes. Marymount opened a 7-2 advantage with 15:06 remaining before Hamilton responded with an 8-0 spurt via back-to-back 3-pointers by Nate Raub '27 and Rob Cain '28, followed by a putback by Rideout.
  • A 9-0 run by the Saints put them in front 16-10 with 10:37 left.
  • Rideout keyed a 12-4 stretch for Hamilton over the next 7:50 of game action and put the Continentals back in front at 22-20.
  • Marymount scored the final five points of the half and took a 26-24 lead at the intermission.
 

Notes

  • Hamilton shot a season-low 31 percent (18-58) from the field.
  • The Continentals went 4-for-7 at the line, marking the first time this season that they took less than 10 free throws.
  • Rideout scored a team-high 14 points. He has scored in double figures in seven of eight games this season and leads the team with 14.6 points per contest.
  • Reese pulled down a season- and game-high 15 rebounds and chipped in eight points and a season- and game-high four assists.
  • Raub registered a career high-tying three blocks. He is tied with Reese for second in the NESCAC with 1.8 blocks per game.
  • McClary either tied for the team lead or led the Saints outright with nine rebounds, three steals and three assists.
  • Marymount committed a season-low seven turnovers and tied its season high with 12 offensive rebounds. The Saints shot 13-of-26 from the floor including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc in the second half.

Hamilton continues its non-conference slate at Utica University (5-1) on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
