SAINT-LAMBERT, Quebec – Hamilton College's
Taylor Lambo '26 posted her third straight double-double and the Continentals recorded a 59-52 win against the Vermont State University Castleton Spartans in the 2025 Montreal Shootout at Champlain College Saint-Lambert on Tuesday, Dec. 30.
Season Update
- Hamilton (7-5 overall) split its two games at the Montreal Shootout. The Continentals fell 86-48 against nationally ranked No. 1 New York University on Dec. 29.
- Castleton (3-7), which is 0-3 in the Little East Conference, dropped its sixth straight game.
How It Happened
- The Spartans scored the first points on two free throws by Schuylar Nolan. Hamilton ran off the next eight points and led the rest of the way.
- The Continentals led by as many as eight points in the first quarter and ended up with a 20-13 advantage after the opening 10 minutes.
- Hamilton took its first double-digit lead 2:15 into the second quarter at 24-14 after an offensive rebound and putback by Lambo.
- Kendall Harris '27 gave the Continentals their largest cushion of the first half of 13 points on a 3-pointer that made it 29-16 with 5:51 left. Castleton clawed back to within four points in the final minute of the quarter, and Hamilton took a 32-27 lead into the locker room after a free throw by Maggie Kernodle '29.
- Stasia Epler drew the Spartans within three points at 40-37 on two free throws with 4:55 remaining in the third quarter, but they didn't get any closer.
- The Continentals responded with a 19-3 run during the next 10 minutes and took control of the contest. Harris started the spurt with a jumper and, after a Castleton free throw, Lambo collected her own miss and made the layup. Kernodle drained two free throws and Lambo and Harris added baskets in the paint for a 50-38 lead after three quarters.
- Hamilton's Abbey Schwoebel '27 scored the first points of the fourth quarter two minutes in with a layup. Harris nailed a jumper and Schowebel countered a layup by the Spartans' Emily Adams by making two free throws. Althea Hill '26 ended the impressive run with a 3-pointer that made it 59-40 with 4:36 to go. The 19-point lead was the biggest of the day for the Continentals.
- Castleton ended the game with 12 straight points in the final 4:20.
Notes
- Lambo finished with 14 points and 14 rebounds and is averaging 15.7 points and 12.0 boards in the last three games. She is seventh in the NESCAC with 13.6 points per contest and is fourth with 8.8 rebounds per game and in field goal percentage at 53.2 percent (67-126).
- Harris dropped in a game-high 15 points and is fifth in the conference with 14.4 per game.
- Harris and Lambo combined to go 13-of-20 from the floor.
- Hannah Bernstein '28 handed out a season-best five assists.
- Hamilton came out hot as the Continentals were 8-of-16 from the field in the first quarter.
- Hamilton enjoyed a 36-12 advantage in points in the paint.
- The Continentals blocked seven shots and they average more than four per game.
- Epler paced the Spartans with 11 points and Arianna Coombs chipped in 10. Maggie McKearin pulled down 10 rebounds.
- Castleton shot just 25 percent (15-60) from the floor but stayed in the game by going 18-for-27 at the free-throw line.
