Women’s basketball cruises to 77-54 win over Vassar

Lambo ’26 recorded her fourth straight double-double for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Erica Hills '28 scored a game-high 17 points and Taylor Lambo '26 posted a double-double in the Continentals' 77-54 non-conference win over the Vassar College Brewers on Hamilton's Coach Tom Murphy Court inside Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Saturday, Jan. 3.
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton (8-5 overall) improved to 5-0 at home.
  • Vassar (3-6), which is 2-0 in the Liberty League, dropped to 0-5 on the road.
 

How It Happened

  • Vassar scored the first five points on a 3-pointer by Elodie Ware and a layup by Lindsey Shoulders. Hamilton took its first lead at 8-7 with 5:29 left in the first quarter after Reagan Dowd '29 recorded a steal in the Continentals' full-court press and found Maggie Kernodle '29 for a layup.
  • Hills drove to the basket and converted a contested layup just before the first-quarter buzzer and the Continentals held a 19-18 lead after 10 minutes of action.
  • Hills scored eight of her points in the second quarter on two 3-pointers and a layup. Hamilton began the second quarter with a 7-1 spurt on a triple by Hills on the opening possession followed by a layup and a jumper by Abbey Schwoebel '27.
  • Hamilton took its first double-digit lead at 33-23 with 3:49 remaining in the second after Kendall Harris '27 drove towards the baseline and dropped off a pass to a cutting Hills for a layup. Vassar converted a second-chance opportunity on its next possession, but Harris drained a 3-pointer with 2:47 left in the half and extended Hamilton's lead to 36-25.
  • Vassar's Erin Lovett scored a layup with 13 seconds left and cut the Brewers' deficit to 38-29 at halftime.
  • Hamilton shot 6-of-8 from the floor and 8-for-10 at the line during the third quarter while limiting Vassar to 3-of-14 shooting and extended its lead to 59-39 heading into the fourth. The Continentals went on a 17-3 run between the 6:31 and 1:51 marks in the third and established a 59-36 advantage. Lambo scored six points during the stretch.
  • Hamilton began the fourth quarter with an 11-0 run and took its largest lead of 31 points at 70-39 with 6:45 remaining. Jaylen Manning '29 scored six points in the fourth, while Parker Kendall '28 knocked down her first career 3-pointer with 4:27 remaining and made it 73-43.


Notes

  • Hills finished 7-of-8 from the field including 3-of-3 from beyond the arc.
  • Lambo posted her fourth straight double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Harris also scored in double figures with 12. It was her sixth straight game in double figures in points. Harris is shooting 43.5 percent (20-46) from long range and 93.3 percent (14-15) at the free-throw line.
  • Dowd distributed a season-high four assists.
  • Manning scored a season-high six points.
  • The Continentals shot 49.2 percent from the field, which was their third-highest mark in a game this season. Hamilton shot 38.9 percent from 3-point range, which tied for their second-best percentage this season.
  • McDermed and Lovett scored 14 points apiece for the Brewers.
