No. 14 women’s hockey wins fourth in a row with 6-3 decision against Utica

Snow ’29 scored a season-high two goals for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – The Hamilton College Continentals scored three goals in the first period and cruised to a 6-3 win over the Utica University Pioneers inside Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink on Tuesday, Dec. 2.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (4-1-1 overall) has won its last four at home.
  • Utica (3-5 overall) drops to 0-4 on the road.


How It Happened

  • Hamilton opened the scoring following a flurry of chances with just over 11 remaining in the first period. A shot by Gabby Martiniello '28 from just inside the blue line was saved, but Ava Romano '27 recovered the puck, fired a shot that was blocked, then placed another shot past the goalkeeper to give the Continentals a 1-0 lead.
  • Grace Puskar '27 won a faceoff for the Continentals in the right side of their offensive zone with 3:09 left in the first period. Carly McMahon '27 lifted the puck towards the goal line, and Bri Rockwood '28 hit a one-time shot in traffic that snuck past the goalkeeper.
  • Hamilton sprung a quick counterattack two minutes later to extend its lead to 3-0 with just over a minute remaining in the opening period. Lilly Truchon '26 sent a pass up the left boards to Lila Snow '29, who received the puck at the blue line in Hamilton's defensive zone, skated with pace past her defender and fired a shot from close range to register her first career goal.
  • Utica got a goal back less than two minutes into the second period as Kaci Ryder found Madison Richman who fired a wrist shot from the left side of the offensive zone.
  • With 14:36 left in the second period, Romano centered a pass from the goal line to Snow, who placed her shot perfectly into the top right corner.
  • Sophia Testa '26 received the puck just in front of the blue line with 9:49 left in the second period and lifted a shot towards goal. The puck bounced off Katie Allen '26 and landed in front of Grace Long '27, who pounced on it and placed her one-time effort into the roof of the net.
  • With under 16 minutes remaining in the third period, Grace Crowley '26 pried the puck loose at the center line, then Jamie Porter '28 skated into the right side of the offensive zone and unleashed a left-handed shot that beat the goalkeeper to give the Continentals a 6-1 advantage.
  • Samantha Dobrzynski scored for Utica with 6:41 left in the third period, then the Pioneers scored the final goal of the contest on a power play with four minutes remaining.
  • Evie Sheridan '26 tallied 16 of her 26 total saves in the third period to close out the win.

Notes

  • Hamilton scored at least six goals in consecutive games for the first time in the last 13 seasons. The Continentals claimed a 6-2 win last time out against SUNY Morrisville.
  • The Continentals totaled a season-high 17 points with six goals and 11 assists.
  • Snow scored her first and second career goals to finish with a season-high two points.
  • Rockwood registered her first points of the season with one goal and one assist.
  • Romano provided one goal and one assist to record her first career multi-point game.
  • Porter scored her first goal of the season.
  • Hamilton had five different goal scorers in a game for the first time this season.
  • Martiniello distributed a career-high two assists for a career-high two points.
  • Puskar, Testa and Crowley have each recorded at least one assist in their last three games played.
  • McMahon and Truchon both picked up their first assist of the season.
  • Sheridan made a season-high 26 saves for the Continentals in her second appearance of the season.
  • Sadie Klein '29 went 8-for-8 on faceoffs for Hamilton, while Long went 8-for-10 on faceoffs.
  • Sophia Rodham '27 blocked a team-high three shots for Hamilton.
  • Ryder recorded a team-high two points for Utica with two assists.

The Continentals will play a non-conference contest at Oswego State on Dec. 6 at 3 p.m.
