Women's basketball can't keep pace with No. 1 New York University

Lambo '26 posted her second straight double-double for the Continentals

SAINT-LAMBERT, Quebec – New York University scored 36 points off 33 Hamilton College turnovers and the Violets remained undefeated with an 86-48 win in the 2025 Montreal Shootout at Champlain College Saint-Lambert on Monday afternoon, Dec. 29.
 

Season Update

  • The Continentals (6-5 overall) played for the first time since they edged Union College 71-68 on Dec. 13.
  • Two-time defending NCAA Division III champion and nationally ranked No. 1 NYU (9-0), which is a member of the University Athletic Association, extended its win streak to 71 games.
 

How It Happened

  • Neither team led by more than three points in the first quarter. Hamilton led 10-7 and 12-9 late in the quarter, and 14-12 on an Annabelle Semeter '28 layup with 1:26 left.
  • A 3-pointer by Olivia Lagao put the Violets in front at 15-14 with under a minute remaining in the first, and NYU led 17-15 after the opening 10 minutes.
  • A layup by Kendall Harris '27 drew the Continentals even at 17-17 only a few seconds into the second quarter. A layup and a 3-pointer by Zahra Alexander on consecutive possessions gave the Violets the lead for good at 22-17 with 9:37 to go.
  • Hamilton was still within three points at 27-24 after two free throws by Harris with 4:26 left, but NYU ended the quarter with an 11-2 run and took a 38-26 advantage into the locker room.
  • The Violets led by double digits the rest of the afternoon. NYU took its first 20-point lead at 57-36 late in the third quarter and was up by 31 at 69-38 at the end of three. The Violets led by as many as 40 points at 84-44 and 86-46 late in the fourth quarter.
 

Notes

  • Harris topped the Continentals with 12 points and has scored in double-digits for the fourth game in a row.
  • Taylor Lambo '26 recorded her second consecutive double-double and the 29th of her Hamilton career with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Lambo also handed out four assists. She is fifth in the NESCAC with 8.4 rebounds per game and third with 3.2 assists per contest.
  • Reagan Dowd '29 made both of her attempts from beyond the arc and finished with six points. Dowd is 7-of-18 (38.9 percent) from long range.
  • The Continentals held a 40-36 edge on the glass.
  • NYU's Lagao and Aila Kaibara combined to go 8-of-13 from 3-point land and ended up with 18 and 14 points, respectively. Yasmene Clark added 10 points. Alexander dished out four assists and had four of the Violets' 24 steals.
  • NYU shot 13-of-22 from the field including 5-of-9 from deep as the Violets scored 31 points in the third quarter.
  • NYU's 86 points were a season low.
 

Next Game

Hamilton takes on Vermont State University Castleton (3-6) in the Continentals' second and final game at the Montreal Shootout on Tuesday, Dec. 30 at 4 p.m.
