CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's
Taylor Lambo '26 recorded a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds, and the Continentals claimed a 71-68 non-conference win over the Union College Garnet Chargers on Hamilton's Coach Tom Murphy Court inside Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 13.
Season Update
- Hamilton (6-4 overall) improved to 4-0 at home.
- Union (5-2) is 2-0 in Liberty League play. The Garnet Chargers defeated Utica University by 30 points in their only other road game this season back on Nov. 7.
How It Happened
- Zoe Myslewicz '28 drained a jumper from the right side of the floor for a 69-67 advantage for the Continentals with 1:38 remaining in the fourth quarter.
- Union went 1-of-2 from the line with 39 seconds remaining and made it a one-point game.
- With nine seconds left, Hannah Bernstein '28 inbounded the ball from the baseline to a cutting Myslewicz who converted a contested layup from the left block and gave Hamilton a 71-68 lead.
- Union missed its final two 3-point attempts and Hamilton hung on for the win.
- Both teams had their best shooting quarter in the opening frame. Hamilton shot 9-of-12 from the field in the first 10 minutes, while Union was 10-of-18.
- Union's Grace Ceseretti scored nine points in the first quarter. Ceseretti drained a 3-pointer with 3:31 left and Grace Ardito converted a jumper that gave the Garnet Chargers a 19-14 lead.
- Lambo, who scored seven points in the opening stanza, drove to the basket and scored in the paint with 2:45 left. Annabelle Semeter '28 drilled a pull-up jumper with 1:51 remaining and cut Hamilton's deficit to 19-18.
- Following a 3-pointer by Ardito with just over one minute left, Myslewicz scored on Hamilton's final possession and made it 22-20.
- Ardito made a 3-pointer from the left corner with 9:37 left in the second quarter that gave the Garnet Chargers a five-point advantage. The Continentals responded with a 6-0 burst and took the lead.
- Ceseretti and Ardito combined for seven straight points between the 4:12 and 2:19 marks in the second for Union's largest lead of six points at 34-28.
- Hamilton scored the final seven points of the first half with layups by Erica Hills '28 and Lambo sandwiching the first career made 3-pointer by Jaylen Manning '29 for a 37-36 lead.
- The Continentals took their largest lead of four points at 46-42 with 5:25 remaining in the third quarter following a 3-pointer by Bernstein.
- Union tied the score at 46-46 one minute later, but Hamilton went back in front with an old-fashioned 3-point play by Myslewicz with 3:27 left in the quarter.
- Union took its first lead of the second half at 50-49 following a jumper by Jelena Perovic with 2:19 left in the third.
- A jumper by Olivia Cunningham with 34 seconds left gave Union a 54-51 lead, but Myslewicz scored in the paint on Hamilton's final possession and made it a one-point game heading into the fourth.
- The final quarter featured five ties and three lead changes. Hills scored eight points in the fourth for Hamilton.
- Union took the largest lead of the frame at 63-59 with 5:29 remaining, but Hamilton scored the next four points and tied the score.
- Lambo scored in the paint with 2:41 to go and tied the score again at 65-65. Althea Hill '26 came up with a steal at the other end, and Hills drove to the left block and put the Continentals in front with a layup. Perovic tied the score with a jumper at the 1:59 mark.
Notes
- Lambo recorded her second consecutive 20-point outing and the 28th double-double of her career. She shot 8-of-11 from the field and tallied a season-high seven made free throws.
- Hills tallied 15 points, seven rebounds and two steals.
- Myslewicz tied her career high and set a season high with 15 points. She shot 7-of-10 from the field and grabbed seven rebounds.
- Perovic scored a team-high 19 points for Union, while Ceseretti and Ardito registered 14 points apiece.
- Cunningham pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds to go along with eight points and three steals.
- Hamilton shot 10-for-16 at the free-throw line, compared to 2-for-9 for the Garnet Chargers.
- The Continentals pulled down 13 offensive rebounds, two shy of their season high.
- This was the first meeting between the teams since December 2018.
