Women's basketball cruises to win at Curry after 15-0 run in first quarter

Lambo '26 and Schwoebel '27 scored in double digits for the Continentals

MILTON, Mass. – Hamilton College ran off 15 consecutive points in the first quarter and the Continentals coasted to a 70-52 non-conference win against the Curry College Colonels inside Curry's Katz Gymnasium on Tuesday evening, Nov. 25.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (5-1 overall) rebounded nicely from its lone loss this season on Nov. 22 at SUNY Oneonta.
  • The Colonels (1-5), who are members of the Conference of New England, dropped their fourth straight game.

How It Happened

  • Curry scored on its first possession but that would turn out to be the Colonels' only lead of the night.
  • Maggie Kernodle '29 started the Continentals' 15-0 run with a three-pointer, and Taylor Lambo '26 and Kernodle followed with made jumpers in the paint. Kendall Harris '27 drained a shot from beyond the arc and a steal by Lambo and fast-break basket by Erica Hills '28 made it 12-2. A basket from long range by Hannah Bernstein '28 capped the spurt and gave Hamilton a 13-point lead just five minutes into the first quarter. The Continentals held a 21-7 advantage after the first 10 minutes.
  • Curry didn't get closer than nine points the rest of the way. Hamilton led 36-20 at the break after shooting 54.2 percent (13-of-24) from the floor in the first half.
  • In the third quarter the Continentals' cushion fluctuated between nine and 16 points, and they went into the final 10 minutes with a 55-41 lead.
  • Hamilton ran off 10 straight in the fourth quarter and took its largest lead of 21 points at 67-46 on an Abbey Schwoebel '27 layup with 4:28 left. Althea Hill '26 matched that 21-point cushion at 70-49 with 2:58 remaining when she made the first of two free throws.

Notes

  • Lambo led all scorers with 14 points. She's 13th in the NESCAC with 13.5 per game.
  • Schwoebel made all three of her field goal attempts and finished with a career-high 11 points off the bench. She's 9-of-16 from the field this season.
  • Annabelle Semeter '28 chipped in eight points and tied a career best with three steals.
  • The Continentals blocked eight shots and scored 21 points off 21 turnovers by the Colonels.
