GENEVA, N.Y. – Hobart College's Monty Nedd scored a game-high 21 points and led the Statesmen to an 84-70 win over the Hamilton College Continentals in the championship game of the 2025 Hobart Basketball Tournament inside Bristol Gym on Saturday, Nov. 22.
Season Update
- Hamilton (2-2 overall) advanced to the title game after defeating SUNY Fredonia by a score of 92-56 on Friday.
- Hobart (4-1 overall) won its fourth straight games.
How It Happened
- Hobart's Harrison Muntner converted a layup that gave the Statesmen an 18-13 lead with 12:39 left in the first half. Will Holmes '27 scored the next four points and cut Hamilton's deficit to one.
- Hobart drained a 3-pointer on its next two possessions, and a fast-break dunk by Dorian Paki gave the Statesmen a 26-18 advantage at the 8:56 mark.
- Matthew Rideout '27 scored five straight for the Continentals and once again made it a one-possession game.
- Hobart extended its lead back out to eight with just over one minute remaining in the first half, but Evan O'Reilly '29 drained a 3-pointer during the next possession for the Continentals.
- Hobart scored in the paint during the final possession of the first half and took a 38-31 lead at the intermission.
- 3-pointers by Hobart's Alex Moesch and Nedd sandwiched a jumper by Rideout early in the second half and extended Hobart's lead to 44-33.
- Hamilton went on an 8-0 burst with a jumper by Jalen Reese '27 and 3-pointers by Nate Raub '27 and David Melson '29 that trimmed the Continentals' deficit to three with 17:40 left.
- Following a 3-pointer by Raub at the 14:08 mark, Hobart went on a 9-0 run and established a 57-44 lead.
- A layup by Moesch at the 8:14 mark brought Hobart's lead back to 10. Hamilton scored the next five points and cut its deficit to 70-65 with 6:43 remaining.
- Hobart went on a 7-2 spurt with the help of a 3-pointer by Allen Mordi and brought its lead back to double digits with 2:34 remaining.
- The Statesmen went 7-for-8 at the line in the final 1:08 and secured the tournament championship.
Notes
- Hobart shot 22-for-29 at the line, compared to 10-for-19 for Hamilton. The Statesmen converted 15-of-16 free throws in the second half.
- Rob Cain '28 recorded a team- and career-high 14 points in 16 minutes off the bench.
- Raub totaled 13 points and two blocked shots.
- Rideout and Holmes also scored in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
- Melson grabbed a team- and season-high nine rebounds.
- Paki and Mordi added 13 points apiece and Moesch dropped in 10, and Justin Price handed out five assists.
