CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's
Erica Hills '28 posted her second career double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, and the Continentals shot 54.5 percent from the field in their 88-64 non-conference win over the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles on Hamilton's Coach Tom Murphy Court inside Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Tuesday night, Nov. 18.
Season Update
- Hamilton (3-0 overall) won its third straight at home to begin the season. The Continentals received votes in the D3hoops.com Top 25 Preseason Poll.
- Brockport (1-3) concluded its season-opening four-game road swing.
How It Happened
- The Continentals got off to a hot start shooting 13-of-15, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range, in the opening quarter.
- Hamilton went on a 15-3 run during the period with the help of five consecutive points by Abbey Schwoebel '27 and established a 24-10 advantage with 2:32 left in the first.
- An old fashioned three-point play by Reagan Dowd '29 and a jumper by Kendall Harris '27 extended Hamilton's lead to 19 points, but Brockport's Mandy Brink nailed a three-pointer from the right wing on the final possession of the quarter and cut the lead to 33-17 after the opening 10 minutes.
- Althea Hill '26, Maggie Kernodle '29, and Annabelle Semeter '28 knocked down three-pointers during the first five minutes of the second quarter for a 46-28 advantage.
- With under two minutes left in the second, Harris grabbed a defensive rebound, brought the ball into the front court, dribbled past her defender and drained a pull-up jumper from the elbow that made it 53-36.
- Brockport's Brianna Carey scored a layup with under a minute remaining in the quarter, but Hills converted a fast-break layup just before the buzzer and gave the Continentals a 55-38 lead at halftime.
- Taylor Lambo '26 found Harris for a jumper from the free-throw line on the first possession of the third quarter. The Golden Eagles responded with a 10-1 run and trimmed their deficit to 58-48 with 5:20 left in the third.
- Hamilton countered with a 7-0 burst on layups by Lambo and Hills sandwiched around a three-pointer by Semeter.
- Schwoebel got past her defender and scored a layup with an up-and-under move from the right block with under 15 seconds left in the third. She delivered a nice pass to a cutting Hills for a layup on the final possession of the quarter and gave the Continentals a 70-50 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
- Hills accounted for three of Hamilton's first five field goals in the fourth and assisted on back-to-back, foul-line jumpers by Semeter for an 84-63 lead with 3:04 remaining.
- Jaylen Manning '29 recorded her first career field goal on a jumper from the right wing during Hamilton's final possession.
Notes
- Hills, Harris, Kernodle, Semeter and Schwoebel each scored in double figures on over 50 percent shooting from the field.
- Hills' eight made field goals tied a career high.
- Semeter scored in double figures for the third consecutive game off the bench. She leads the team with 13.3 points per game.
- Harris provided 15 points with four assists and three blocks.
- Lambo distributed a game-high six assists to go along with 10 rebounds and three blocks.
- Schwoebel tied a career high with 10 points.
- Hamilton enjoyed a 49-23 advantage in bench points.
- Hamilton shot 36-of-66 from the field as a team. The 36 made field goals and 88 points are the most recorded by the Continentals since they converted 42 field goals on 54.5 percent shooting during a 97-24 win over SUNY Canton in their 2019-20 season opener. Hamilton also made 36 field goals during an 81-38 win over Colby-Sawyer College on Dec. 4, 2021.
- Hamilton's 27 assists were the most in a game since the win over Canton in 2019.
- Stephanie Jean-Baptiste and Brink scored a team-high 13 points apiece for the Golden Eagles, who just 30 percent (24-80) from the floor.
