No. 9 men's hockey cruises to 5-1 win over Amherst in season opener

Reid '27 made 27 saves and didn't allow a goal during the last two-plus periods

CLINTON, N.Y. – Luke Tchor '27 led the way for Hamilton College with a goal and an assist as the Continentals routed the Amherst College Mammoths 5-1 in their 2025-26 season opener inside Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink on Friday night, Nov. 14.

Season Update

  • Hamilton is currently ranked ninth in the USCHO.com Division III Top 15 poll.
  • NESCAC rival Amherst was also playing its first game of the season.

How It Happened

  • The Continentals scored four unanswered goals after Amherst tied the score at 1-1 halfway through the first period.
  • Hamilton opened the scoring at 10:06 of the first. After a faceoff win in the offensive zone, Clarence Beltz '29 slid the puck across the face of the goal where Alex Danis '26 poked it in.
  • Josh Burke drew the Mammoths even just 30 seconds later. Matt Vander Vort and Oliver Flynn picked up assists.
  • The Continentals regained the lead with 2:07 left in the period. Amherst had a 2-on-1 opportunity but Michael Gallary '28 made an excellent defensive stop. On the ensuing counter, Tchor weaved through the defense and lifted the puck into the roof of the net for a highlight-reel goal.
  • On Hamilton's first power play of the night, Max Bulawka '26 slid a pass right in front of the net to Jackson Krock '26 who tapped the puck in for a 3-1 lead at 10:51 of the second period. Amherst goaltender Andrew Palena was injured on the play and replaced by Vincent Lamberti.
  • The Continentals put the game out of reach with 6:54 remaining in the second as Tchor passed it out to Lucas Constantine '27 for a one-timer from the blue line that made it 4-1.
  • Ryan Sordillo '27 finished off the scoring 10:33 into the third period with Hamilton's second power-play goal of the night. The Continentals worked the puck around and Noah Leibl '27 found Sordillo for a shot from the right side of the offensive zone.
