WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Williams College's Kate Lane posted 13 kills and 10 digs and the Ephs defeated the Hamilton College Continentals in four sets (20-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-20) at Williams' Chandler Athletic Center on Friday evening, Oct. 31.
Season Update
- Hamilton (7-11, 1-8 NESCAC) dropped to 1-4 in road matches.
- Williams (17-6, 6-3), which received votes in the latest AVCA/TARAFLEX Division III Top 25 poll, sits in fourth place in the NESCAC standings.
How It Happened
- In the first set a kill by Caitlin Allen '27 put the Continentals in front, 11-10. Hamilton held the lead until the Ephs tied the score at 18-18. Hamilton used a 6-1 run and pulled back in front with kills by Ayzlinn Trefren '28, Grace Seaman '29 and Allen. Grace Jansen '29 set up Seaman for a first-ball kill that ended the first set.
- The second set featured 11 lead changes with neither team leading by more than three points until the Ephs scored three straight for a 23-19 lead. A Hamilton block by Allen and Trefren made it 24-23, but Williams' Annaliese Frickle produced a kill that won the set.
- Hamilton built a 6-2 lead in set three following two attack errors by Williams and a service ace by Seaman, but Williams responded with four straight points to tie the score. A solo block by Allen and a kill by Trefren capped a 5-0 run for the Continentals and gave them a 19-17 lead. Allen delivered another solo block that made it 23-22 in favor of Hamilton, but the Ephs scored the next three points and won the set.
- The Ephs went on a 10-1 run and built a 21-12 advantage in the fourth set. Hamilton scored the next four points with the help of three Williams attack errors. The Ephs regrouped and scored three in a row and was within one point of winning the match. The Continentals made things interesting with a 4-0 run that cut their deficit to 24-20, but Williams' Chi Obi delivered a kill on match point.

- Trefren totaled a season-high 19 digs and served a pair of aces.
- Seaman paced Hamilton with 11 kills and two service aces.
- Kathryn Fox '27 tied her career high with six total blocks.
- Allen provided three solo blocks and four block assists and is second in the NESCAC with 1.24 per set against conference opponents.
- Jansen and Lucy Proud '29 distributed 14 assists apiece. Jansen added 11 digs for her eighth double-double.
