LEWISTON, Maine – The Hamilton College Continentals were handed their first loss in more than two weeks at the hands of the Bates College Bobcats in a 2-0 NESCAC decision at Bates' Russell Street Field on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 5.
Season Update
- Hamilton (5-3-3, 1-3-3 NESCAC) played two nationally ranked teams in the past week. The Continentals defeated No. 19 Ithaca College 2-0 on Sept. 30.
- The 13th-ranked Bobcats (7-2-1, 3-2-1) have allowed just three goals all season.
How it Happened
- Hamilton outshot Bates 14-11 and came close to putting the ball into the goal multiple times.
- Bates opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when Peter Montesano Scheibe '27 made an excellent point-blank save, but Chris Bianco scored on the rebound for the Bobcats.
- Bates doubled its advantage in the 57th minute when Luke Cunniffe scored on a 1v1 situation against Montesano Scheibe.
- The Continentals' best chance came in the 81st minute. William Fauth '29 shot the ball from the top of the box, but Bates goalkeeper George Nassar tipped it over the crossbar for one of Hamilton's seven corner kicks.
Notes
- Sunday was just the second time all season that Hamilton gave up more than one goal. The Continentals had blanked their previous three opponents.
- Montesano Scheibe finished with three saves.
- Hamilton held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
- Troy Miller '28 once again led the Continentals with four shots.
