Sullivan '29 scores go-ahead goal in women's soccer win at Bates, 3-2

First-year collected her first collegiate goal in the 63rd minute for the Continentals

LEWISTON, Maine - Hamilton College's Lila Sullivan '29 scored the go-ahead goal and added an assist in the Continentals' 3-2 NESCAC win against the Bates College Bobcats at Bates' Russell Street Field on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 5.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (4-4-3, 2-4-1 NESCAC) rebounded nicely from its setback at Colby College on Oct. 4.
  • Bates (3-3-3, 0-3-2) extended its winless streak to five matches.

How It Happened

  • In the fourth minute, Hamilton's Haley Cramer '28 received a cross by Sullivan from the left corner and she headed past the goalkeeper for an early 1-0 lead.
  • The Continentals extended their advantage to two goals in the seventh minute. Kate Giglio '28 launched a corner kick from the left side towards the far post where Sarah Flood '27 was waiting to head it in.
  • Early in the second half, Bates' Zoe Mittelsteadt cut the Hamilton lead to one as she redirected a shot off her head and past the goalkeeper.
  • Almost two minutes later in the 51st minute, Bates' Gwyn Jamison connected on a free kick from the right side and tied the score.
  • Sullivan put the Continentals back in the lead at 3-2 in the 63rd minute. She lasered a free kick from the left side of the 18-yard box off the hands of the diving Sydney Litney and into the back of the net.
  • Bates' unsuccessful final push included a centering pass that flew through the middle of the field with no offensive player in position to capitalize.
  • The Bobcats had three shots, including two on goal, and two corner kicks after Hamilton took its 3-2 lead.
