Tracy '28 scores with two seconds remaining, lifts men's soccer to 2-1 win at Utica

The Continentals outshot the Pioneers 26-9

UTICA, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Zach Tracy '28 scored in the final moments of the second half to give the Continentals a 2-1 non-conference win over the Utica University Pioneers at Utica's Laura M. Casamento Field on Wednesday evening, Oct. 22.
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton (6-5-3 overall) improved to 5-0 against non-conference opponents this season.
  • The Pioneers (7-4-4 overall) lost for the second time in their last 11 games.
 

How It Happened

  • The Pioneers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute as Byamungu Mugushu sent a pass in behind the Hamilton defense up the left channel for Felix-Assa Loselose, who placed a right-footed shot into the bottom right corner of the goal.
  • The Continentals created a chance in the 21st minute as Oliver Mylon '29 received a pass at the top of the box and struck a one-time right-footed shot that curled towards the top right corner of the Utica goal, but was punched away for a corner kick by Utica goalkeeper Cian LeVasseur (10 saves).
  • Hamilton tied the match at 1-1 off a corner kick in the 39th minute as Zander Laidlaw '28 drove a cross to the center of the six-yard box where Aidan Falvey '28 headed the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.
  • Hamilton earned a corner kick with just under 20 seconds remaining in the match, and rushed to take the kick quickly.  Hamilton had its initial shot blocked following the corner, then Brady Hyland '29 sent a pass to the left side of the six-yard box for Tracy, who used his first touch to knock the ball into the bottom right corner of the Utica goal and give the Continentals their first lead of the match with 1.9 seconds remaining on the scoreboard.
  • The Continentals dominated play in the second half, outshooting the Pioneers 16-5 in the final 45 minutes with eight shots on target.

Notes

  • The Continentals recorded 26 shots during the match, two shy of their season high, compared to nine for the Pioneers.
  • Hamilton also recorded 12 shots on goal against Utica, marking the fifth game this season that they put at least 10 shots on goal.  
  • Hamilton held the advantage in corner kicks, 12-3.
  • Falvey registered his second goal of the season, while Tracy is second on the team in goals with four.
  • Hyland collected his second assist of the season on the game-winning goal.
  • Troy Miller '28 recorded a game-high five shots for the Continentals with two on target.
  • Hamilton has bested Utica in each of the last 12 meetings between the two programs dating back to 2013.
  • Hamilton's Adam Molusis '27 played the full 90 minutes for the 12th time this season.

Hamilton will celebrate Senior Day during its final regular season match against Trinity College (3-7-3, 0-5-3) at Love Field on Saturday, Oct. 25.
