Men’s basketball falls to Franklin & Marshall, ends 10-game win streak

Continentals begin NESCAC action with road game at Bates on Saturday, Jan. 11

CLINTON, N.Y. – Franklin & Marshall College's Kevin Nowoswiat led all players with 18 points and the Diplomats outlasted the Hamilton College Continentals 65-62 on Hamilton's Coach Tom Murphy Court inside Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 7. 
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton (11-2 overall) brought a 10-game win streak into the non-conference game. 
  • The Diplomats (8-4), who are members of the Centennial Conference, have won three of their last four contests. 

How It Happened

  • Owen Kane '25 ignited an 8-0 run with a corner 3-ball, and Graham Robinson '25 capped the spurt with another 3-pointer for a 10-2 lead with 15:07 left in the opening half. 
  • The Continentals scored seven straight points, including 3-pointers by Teja Singh '25 and Kane, and owned a 24-11 advantage with 6:10 left. 
  • Hank Morgan '25 knocked down a shot from long distance, giving the Continentals a 30-19 lead with 2:42 to go, but Franklin & Marshall countered with a 7-0 run that slimmed its deficit to four points at 30-26 with 1:23 remaining. 
  • Matthew Rideout '27 buried a mid-range jumper, and Morgan beat the buzzer with a layup for a 34-26 advantage at the break. 
  • The Diplomats sliced its deficit in half at 37-33 with 16:10 left, and eventually narrowed the gap to a single possession at 40-38 with 15:05 to go.  
  • After three lead changes, Franklin & Marshall gained momentum with a 7-0 run for a 49-44 lead with 10:15 to go. 
  • The Continentals got as close as one point on five occasions in the final 8:48, including when Singh made a jumper for a 63-62 score with 37 seconds left. 
  • Hamilton forced a turnover in the backcourt, but missed its opportunity to score and sent the Diplomats to the free-throw line. 
  • Franklin & Marshall missed both attempts, giving Hamilton a second chance, but the Continentals came up short. Hamilton fouled on the following in-bounds play and Charles Sebastien converted both free throws for the final margin. 

Notes

  • Kane led Hamilton with a season-high 13 points while passing out three assists. He was 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.
  • Morgan recorded 12 points and led the Continentals with seven rebounds and four assists. 
  • Rideout finished with 12 points off the bench.
  • Singh notched 11 points and three assists. 
  • Nowoswiat also led the Diplomats with seven rebounds. 
  • Dylan Cormac added 13 points off the bench thanks to three 3-pointers.
  • Vakaris Grauslys had 10 points and led F&M with two blocked shots and three steals. 
  • John Seidman contributed nine points and six rebounds.
  • Josh Parra chipped in eight points. 
  • Hamilton shot 42.6 percent (23-54) from the floor, including 39.1 percent (9-23) from the 3-point line, and finished 7-for-11 at the free-throw line. 
  • Franklin & Marshall finished 40 percent (20-50) from the field, including 36.8 percent (7-19) from beyond the arc, and 64.3 percent (18-28) at the charity stripe. 
  • Hamilton owned a 33-32 edge on the glass. 
  • The Diplomats collected 17 points off turnovers.
  • This marked the first meeting between the teams in 60 years.

Hamilton kicks off its NESCAC schedule at Bates College (6-5) on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 5 p.m.
