LEWISTON, Maine – Hamilton College's
Hank Morgan '25 poured in 27 points and the Continentals posted a 74-60 NESCAC win over the Bates College Bobcats inside Bates' Alumni Gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 11.
Season Update
- Hamilton (12-2, 1-0 NESCAC) is receiving votes in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25 poll. The Continentals were playing their conference opener.
- Bates (6-7, 0-2) was swept at home in their opening NESCAC weekend. The Bobcats were edged by Amherst College 72-68 on Friday night.
How It Happened
- Morgan scored Hamilton's first nine points for a 9-5 advantage with 14:39 left in the first half.
- The Bobcats sliced their deficit to one point at 9-8, but the Continentals countered with 3-pointers by Garret Keyhani '26 and Morgan for a 15-8 edge with 11:16 to go.
- Hamilton went on a 7-0 run that started with a Matthew Rideout '27 layup, and Nate Raub '27 contributed the remaining five points on a 3-ball and a jumper in the paint for a 22-11 lead with just under nine minutes remaining.
- Raub drained another 3-pointer and Graham Robinson '25 buried a pair of baskets from long distance for Hamilton's largest lead of 16 points at 33-17 with 5:46 left.
- The Bobcats were able to trim the margin to eight points on two occasions, but a free throw by Owen Kane '25 gave the Continentals a 36-27 advantage at the break.
- Teja Singh '25 started the second half with a 3-pointer for a 12-point cushion.
- Bates rallied with eight straight points and pulled within five points at 46-41 with 14:06 left.
- The Continentals pushed their lead back into double digits with a swift 7-0 run that was fueled by two jumpers by Rideout and a 3-pointer by Keyhani, increasing their advantage to 53-41 with 11:31 remaining.
- The Bobcats gradually cut into the Continentals' lead, closing the gap to seven points at 58-51 with 5:38 left.
- A layup by Morgan and a basket from beyond the arc by Keyhani put Hamilton back up by double digits with about four minutes to go. The Continentals led by at least nine points the rest of the way.
Notes
- Morgan shot 7-of-12 from the field and an impressive 11-of-12 at the free-throw line. He leads the NESCAC with an average of 20.3 points per game. Morgan also grabbed six rebounds.
- Keyhani registered 15 points as he made all three of his 3-point attempts.
- Singh scored all eight of his points in the second half and handed out a team-best four assists.
- Raub contributed eight points in the first half.
- Jalen Reese '27 grabbed six boards and blocked two shots off the bench.
- The Continentals shot 43.6 percent (24-55) from the floor, including 40 percent (10-25) from 3-point land, and 80 percent (16-20) at the charity stripe.
- Bates finished 39.5 percent (17-43) from the field, including 40 percent (10-25) from beyond the arc, and went 16-for-23 (69.9 percent) at the line.
- Hamilton held a 34-28 advantage on the glass.
