Women's hockey plays to 2-2 NESCAC tie at Connecticut College

Romano '27 and Testa '26 scored the goals for the Continentals

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Connecticut College's Ashely Engle scored with 1:16 left in the third period and lifted the Camels into a 2-2 NESCAC tie with the Hamilton College Continentals inside Conn. College's Dayton Arena on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 25.
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton (8-8-2, 3-5-2 NESCAC) has four wins and a tie in its last five games.
  • The Camels (6-9-1, 2-7-1) is receiving votes in the USCHO.com Division III Top 15 poll after they defeated nationally ranked No. 1 Middlebury College two weeks ago.
 

How It Happened

  • The Continentals didn't have a shot attempt in the last six minutes of the third period. A Hamilton player was sent to the penalty box for cross-checking with 5:17 remaining, but the Continentals killed Conn. College's opportunity.
  • The Camels pulled their goaltender for a sixth skater with 2:38 to go and the move paid off Engle's goal 82 seconds later. Conn. College had four of its five shots on goal in the last six minutes of the period.
  • Hamilton controlled the first half of the five-minute, sudden-victory overtime period with four shot attempts. The Camels dominated the second half with four attempts, including three on goal.
  • After a scoreless first period, the Continentals took a 1-0 lead 9:25 into the second. Carly McMahon '27 collected a loose puck in the attacking zone and skated into the right faceoff circle. McMahon passed to Ava Romano '27 in the low slot and she hammered a one-timer into the back of the net.
  • Sophia Testa '26 gave Hamilton a two-goal advantage with 5:54 left in the second period. Grace Crowley '26 won an offensive zone faceoff and Jamie Porter '28 tapped the puck back to Testa for a one-timer through traffic from above the right faceoff circle.
  • Claire Sammons sliced the Continentals' lead in half on her goal just 52 seconds later.
  • Hamilton had power-play chances at 6:37 and 10:58 of the third period, but wasn't able to put more distance between themselves and Conn. College.

  • The Camels won the shootout, 2-1.
  • Romano has five points in the last four games.
  • Testa, who is a defender, scored her second goal this season and the third of her career.
  • Bri Rockwood '28 picked up an assist and has all five of her points in the last four games.
  • Porter tallied her first collegiate assist.
  • Crowley posted her team-leading eighth helper and 10th point and won 11-of-18 faceoffs.
  • Sophie Berghammer '26 blocked three shots and leads the Continentals with 33.
  • Hamilton's Teagan Brown '27 made 18 saves including four in overtime.
  • The Continentals won 33-of-56 faceoffs.
  • Sammons paced Conn. College's offense with a goal and an assist. Caitlin Pierce was credited with two assists.
  • Jillian Wexler turned away 22 shots and Kiley Smith blocked six.
  • Hamilton killed both Camels' power plays. The Continentals have allowed one power-play goal in 37 opportunities this season.
  • Hamilton is 5-0-2 in the last seven meetings with Conn. College.
 

Next Game

The Continentals host Williams College (8-6-1, 2-5-1) for another NESCAC contest on Friday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m.
