Men’s basketball rolls past Amherst, Morgan ’25 scores 29

Senior guard was 11-of-14 from the field in 24-point victory for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Hank Morgan '25 dropped in 29 points and the Continentals cruised to an 84-60 NESCAC win against the Amherst College Mammoths at Hamilton's Coach Tom Murphy Court inside Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Saturday, Jan. 25. 
 

Season Update

  • The Continentals (14-4, 2-2 NESCAC) picked up their first home victory in 2025. 
  • Amherst (10-8, 1-3) dropped its fourth straight contest.

How It Happened

  • The Mammoths owned a 7-5 edge when the Continentals took the lead for good with a 14-0 run. 
  • Jalen Reese '27 ignited the run with an offensive rebound and putback. Nate Raub '27 followed with a layup and Morgan buried a three-pointer from the wing and was fouled. Morgan completed the rare four-point play and Reese capped the rally with consecutive layups for a 19-7 lead with 11:29 left in the first half.
  • Hamilton stretched its lead to 17 points at 27-10 with 9:39 remaining after scoring eight unanswered points. Graham Robinson '25 knocked down back-to-back three-pointers, and Garret Keyhani '26 capped the run with a smooth jumper.
  • Amherst countered with the next six points, but the Continentals pulled away again with a 10-0 run. Morgan started the spurt with a layup, Raub and Matthew Rideout '27 knocked down three-pointers, and Reese showcased his presence in the paint with an offensive board and putback for a 42-20 advantage with 2:25 to go. 
  • The Continentals owned a 22-point cushion at 44-22 heading into halftime. 
  • Hamilton continued to widen its margin in the second half, leading by as many as 28 points at 57-29 with 15:46 remaining. 
  • The Mammoths closed the gap to 16 points, but Morgan responded in style with a crowd-pleasing eight-point run. This included a clutch turnaround three-ball from the baseline that pushed the lead back to 72-48 with just under seven minutes remaining.
  • The Continentals led by 20-plus points the rest of the way. 

Notes

  • Morgan continues to lead the NESCAC in scoring with 21.4 points per game. He was 11-of-14 from the field including 6-of-8 from beyond the arc. Morgan moved up to 14th place on Hamilton's all-time list with 1,382 career points.
  • Rideout contributed seven of his 10 points in the second half. 
  • Teja Singh '25 registered nine points and Keyhani added eight.
  • Reese finished with eight points, five offensive boards, a team-best three assists and two blocked shots. 
  • Raub gathered a career-high 10 rebounds. 
  • Bobby Sommers and Chris Hammond paced Amherst with 14 points apiece.
  • Will Scherer chipped in nine points, 14 boards and three blocked shots.
  • Hamilton shot better than 54 percent from the field in the first half, including 7-of-15 from long range. 
  • The Mammoths shot 40 percent (24-60) from the floor, including 30.4 percent (7-23) from beyond the arc. 
  • The Continentals tallied an 18-0 advantage in bench points in the first 20 minutes. 
  • Hamilton carried a 45-32 edge on the glass. The Continentals scored 23 second-chance points off 18 offensive rebounds.

Hamilton starts its trip to Maine with a NESCAC matchup at Bowdoin College (10-8, 0-4) on Friday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m.
