Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey | | Jim Taylor

Women's hockey earns much-needed NESCAC win against Wesleyan, 1-0

Porter '28 had the goal and Brown '27 stopped 23 shots for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Jamie Porter '28 scored the lone goal and Teagan Brown '27 made 23 saves in the Continentals' 1-0 NESCAC win against the Wesleyan University Cardinals inside Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink on Friday night, Jan. 17.

Season Update

  • The Continentals (5-8-1, 1-5-1 NESCAC) won at home for the first time in seven games this season.
  • Wesleyan (6-9-0, 1-6) dropped its third straight contest.

How It Happened

  • After two scoreless periods, there was plenty of drama and excitement in the third. The only goal came with 6:00 left. Abby Weiss '25 put a shot on goal from the bottom of the left faceoff circle and the puck popped out to the slot where Grace Puskar '27 took another shot. Jenna Guglielmi made the save again but didn't hold the puck and Porter poked in the rebound from near the right post.
  • The game's first penalty wasn't called until a Hamilton player was sent to the box for tripping with just 1:36 remaining. The Cardinals pulled Guglielmi for a sixth skater and then had a 6-on-3 advantage with 20.1 seconds to go when another Continental was sent off for hooking. Wesleyan had five shot attempts including three on goal during its power play, but couldn't put one past Brown.
  • The Cardinals recorded five of their six shots on goal in the third period in the final four minutes.

Notes

  • Porter tallied her first collegiate goal and point.
  • Brown posted her seventh career shutout and second this season. She has a 1.71 goals against average and .942 save percentage.
  • Puskar picked up her fourth assist this season, but her first in January.
  • Weiss notched her third career helper.
  • Sophie Berghammer '26 and Sophia Testa '26 blocked three shots apiece. Hamilton finished with 14 blocked shots.
  • Wesleyan was 0-for-2 on the power play. The Continentals' penalty kill is perfect this season at 26-for-26.
  • The shutout was Hamilton's fourth this season.
  • Guglielmi finished with 26 stops including 11 in the second period.
  • The Continentals won their sixth consecutive meeting at home with the Cardinals.
