Men’s basketball tripped up by No. 12 Trinity, Morgan ’25 drops in 36

Morgan ’25 leads the NESCAC in scoring with 21.3 points per game

CLINTON, N.Y. – Trinity College had four players score in double figures and the Bantams rallied in the second half for a 72-60 NESCAC win over the Hamilton College Continentals on Hamilton's Coach Tom Murphy Court inside Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Saturday, Jan. 18. 
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton (12-4, 1-2 NESCAC) dropped its two conference contests against ranked opponents this weekend. The Continentals fell 73-57 against No. 5 Wesleyan University on Friday night. 
  • Trinity (15-2, 3-1) is ranked 12th in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll. 

How It Happened

  • Trailing 8-4, Hamilton went on an 8-0 run for a 12-8 advantage with 12:11 left in the opening half. 
  • The Continentals rattled off eight straight points for its largest lead of 12 at 26-14 with 4:03 to go. 
  • The Bantams countered with the next seven points, but Hank Morgan '25 buried a deep 3-pointer at the buzzer for a 29-21 edge at the break.
  • Trinity started the second half on a 7-0 run and pulled within one point at 29-28 with 17:14 remaining. 
  • Morgan scored Hamilton's next six points as the Continentals held onto their 35-30 lead, but the Bantams took off on an 8-2 spurt for a 38-37 lead with 12:43 to go. A layup by Jared Berry put Trinity in the lead for good.
  • The Bantams stretched their lead to double digits at 52-42 with just under nine minutes left. 
  • Hamilton threatened with a 6-0 spurt and sliced its deficit to five points at 59-54 with 2:55 to go. 
  • Trinity's Henry Vetter ended the Continentals' hopes with a 3-pointer as the Bantams led by seven or more points for the final 2:36.  

Notes

  • Morgan recorded a career-high 36 points on 13-of-21 shooting from the field. He also went 8-for-8 at the line. Morgan leads the conference with 21.3 points per game and is 16th on Hamilton's all-time list with 1,337 career points. 
  • Matthew Rideout '27 registered his second consecutive double-figure contest with 11 points off the bench. 
  • Jalen Reese '27 chipped in seven points and blocked two shots off the bench. 
  • Berry led the Bantams with 15 points in just 14 minutes off the bench. 
  • Jarrel Okorougo finished with 14 points, five rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals. 
  • Vetter added 13 points and Drew Lazarre dropped in 11. 
  • Tristan Davis contributed eight points and David Ayles had four of the team's nine steals. 
  • Hamilton shot 47.1 percent (24-51) from the field, including 3-of-12 from long range, and went 9-for-10 at the charity stripe. 
  • The Bantams shot 64 percent (16-25) from the floor in the second half and went 17-for-20 at the line. 
  • Trinity owned a 31-29 edge on the glass. 
  • The Bantams tallied 24 points off 19 Hamilton turnovers and scored 18 fast-break points. 

Next Game

Hamilton travels to SUNY Potsdam (2-11 overall) for a midweek non-conference contest on Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 5 p.m.
