Women's hockey drops non-conference tilt at Nazareth, Testa '26 scores

Continentals had ended the Golden Flyers' 2023 and 2024 seasons in the NCAA championship

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Nazareth University's Corsica Skibinski and Brooke Terry scored goals for the Golden Flyers in their 2-1 non-conference win against the Hamilton College Continentals inside Tim Hortons Iceplex on Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 14.
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton (4-8-1 overall) had won its previous four road games.
  • Nazareth (9-5-0) has won its last two after a three-game losing skid. The Golden Flyers are receiving votes in the USCHO.com Division III Top 15 poll.
 

How It Happened

  • Nazareth led for 58-plus minutes as Skibinski scored just 1:42 into the first period. Abby Flanagan had the assist.
  • Terry made it 2-0 with 4:28 left in the second period. Sami Quackenbush '24, who was an all-American defender with the Continentals last season, and Ivey Lyden picked up the assists.
  • Hamilton cut its deficit in half almost exactly three minutes later. Brooke Heck '28 sent the puck from her defensive zone to the other end of the ice. Lilly Truchon '26 beat the defense to the puck and avoided the icing call. Truchon brought the puck behind the goal and up to the right faceoff circle where she dropped it off for Sophia Testa '26. The defender stick-handled around a Nazareth player into the low slot and scored on a wrist shot with 1:27 remaining.
  • The Continentals had their chances to tie it up late in the third period. Less than five seconds into a power play, a shot by Truchon rang off the post with about four minutes to go.
  • Hamilton put six shots on goal and had a total of nine shot attempts in the final three minutes. The Continentals pulled their goaltender for a sixth skater with 58 seconds left but couldn't find the tying goal.
 

Notes

  • Testa scored her first goal this season and blocked two shots.
  • Truchon extended her point streak to four straight games. She has notched a helper in three consecutive contests.
  • Heck collected her first collegiate assist.
  • Teagan Brown '27 made 34 saves for Hamilton. Brown has 30-plus stops in each of the last three games.
  • McKinley Hoff turned away 19 shots for the Golden Flyers.
  • Sophia Pittis won 11-of-14 faceoffs.
  • The Continentals killed all three Nazareth power plays. Opponents are 0-for-24 on the power play this season against Hamilton.
  • The Continentals had won the previous four meetings with the Golden Flyers including the 2023 and 2024 NCAA championship first round matchups.
