Women’s basketball downs Bates in NESCAC opener; Hills ‘28, Harris ‘27 with 21

Continentals shot nearly 55 percent from the floor and led for the last 27 minutes

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Erica Hills '28 and Kendall Harris '27 poured in 21 points apiece as the Continentals posted an 83-65 NESCAC win against the Bates College Bobcats on Hamilton's Coach Tom Murphy Court inside Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Sunday, Jan. 12. 

Season Update

  • Hamilton (12-3, 1-0 NESCAC) has won five of its last six contests. 
  • Bates (9-5, 0-2) is ranked 24th in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Top 25 poll and is receiving votes in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25 poll. 

How It Happened

  • Taylor Lambo '26 and Harris scored on Hamilton's first two possessions, giving them a 4-0 lead less than a minute into the game.
  • The Bobcats gathered a 10-2 run for a 10-6 advantage with 6:34 left, and extended their lead to 17-8 with 4:34 remaining after a 7-0 spurt. 
  • Abbey Schwoebel '27 sparked the Continentals with a strong drive to the basket, drawing a foul and completing the 3-point play at the line. Moments later, Lambo followed up with a clutch layup that cut Hamilton's deficit to 17-13 with 3:26 remaining.
  • The Continentals finished the opening quarter with a surge of six unanswered points. Harris knocked down a jumper, made a key steal on defense and fed Hills for a fast-break layup. Harris capped the run with a 3-pointer for a 22-20 Hamilton lead after 10 minutes.
  • Tied 24-24, Harris nailed a shot from long range and Hills hit a pair at the line for a 29-24 lead with 6:34 to go in the second quarter. The Continentals led the rest of the way.
  • Bates was able to cut the margin down to one point on two occasions, but the Continentals shut down the Bobcats' comeback with a 7-0 run for a 38-30 advantage with 1:09 left. 
  • The Bobcats hit the final two baskets of the half, but the Continentals held a four-point lead at 38-34 heading into the break.
  • Althea Hill '26 opened the third quarter with a 3-pointer and Lambo followed with an old-fashioned 3-point play that gave Hamilton a 46-37 lead with 7:57 remaining.
  • Bates pulled within one point by scoring the next eight points. 
  • The Continentals held on to a 52-49 edge with 3:15 remaining, but extended their advantage with a 9-3 run and closed out the quarter with a 61-52 lead.
  • The Bobcats got as close as five points after scoring the first two baskets of the fourth. The Continentals were resilient under pressure and countered with an 8-2 spurt for an 11-point lead at 69-58 with 5:01 to go. 
  • Hills hit another 3-pointer and scored the next layup for a 74-61 Hamilton cushion with under three minutes remaining. The Continentals led by double digits down the stretch. 

Notes

  • Hamilton picked up its fourth straight home win over Bates. 
  • Hills added a season-best 14 rebounds for her first collegiate double-double. 
  • Harris recorded her fifth 20-plus point game of the season. She added nine rebounds, four assists and three steals.  
  • Lambo finished with 19 points, nine boards and a career-high six assists.  
  • Hill chipped in eight points, while Tessa Cole '25 contributed seven. 
  • Elsa Daulerio topped Bates with 20 points and added five assists and two blocks. 
  • Alexandra Long had 12 points and a team-high seven assists. 
  • Sophie Spolter tallied 10 points and grabbed a team-best six rebounds. 
  • Lily Lambo -- Taylor's younger sister -- added nine points off the bench.
  • Mya Hicks scored seven points. 
  • Hamilton shot 54.7 percent (29-53) from the field, including 6-of-14 from beyond the arc, and went 19-for-23 at the line. 
  • Bates shot 44.3 percent (27-61) from the floor but was just 3-of-15 from the 3-point line. 
  • Hamilton owned a 37-22 edge on the glass. 

Next Game

Hamilton takes on Wesleyan University (5-9, 0-2) in a NESCAC road game on Friday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m.
