WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Hamilton College's
Nieve Tonna '26 held off the Williams College Ephs offense, securing a shutout with eight saves and guiding the Continentals to a 0-0 NESCAC tie on a cool Tuesday, Sept. 3 at Williams' Cole Field.
Season Update
- The Continentals played their 2024 season opener.
- The Ephs, ranked 21st in the United Soccer Coaches Division III Top 25 preseason poll, also played their first game of the season.
How it Happened
- Hamilton's Abby Douglass '27 got out early, targeting the net in the fifth minute, but was stopped by Williams' Margaret Huelin, providing a preview of how the rest of the match would play out for both teams.
- Williams started hot, with two shots on goal in the 11th and 14th minutes, but was unable to score due to Tonna's heroic saves that prevented the Continentals from going down big early.
- In the 50th minute Erin Rayhill '25 made a push for Hamilton, but her shot was blocked by the Ephs' defense.
- The Hamilton defense stood strong and staved off 14 shots by Williams in the second half.

- Williams held a 19-5 advantage in shots, and took all five corner kicks.
- Tonna made six of her eight saves after halftime en route to her sixth career shutout.
- This marks the sixth tie all-time and the third consecutive deadlock between the two squads.
