CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's
Lydon Kelley '25 scored midway through the second quarter and the Continentals' defense made it stand up in their 1-0 non-conference win over the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Engineers at Hamilton's Goodfriend Field on Tuesday evening, Sept. 3.
Season Update
- The Continentals were playing their 2024 season opener.
- RPI (1-2 overall), which had scored seven goals in its first two games, is a member of the Liberty League.
How It Happened
- Kelley tallied the lone goal with 7:05 left in the second quarter. She received a pass near the edge of the arc on the right side. She spun completely around, moved to her left towards the top of the arc and hammered a backhand shot into the left side of the cage. Delaney Grace '25 set up in front and screened the goalie from getting a good look at Kelley's shot.
- Hamilton nearly got on the scoreboard earlier in the second during a penalty corner. Claire Tratnyek '26 had her blast stopped by the goalie and Kelley followed up with two shots from close range that were turned away.
- The Engineers put just two shots on goal but one of them came with less than six minutes to go when Lauren McCarthy's hard shot was kicked away by Kelly Janssen '28.
- RPI pulled their goalie for an 11th field player with about two minutes remaining. Grace had a scoring opportunity on a breakaway in the final seconds but Abby Peterson blocked it for a defensive save.
