No. 23 field hockey outlasts No. 22 Bowdoin 2-1 in NESCAC action

Truchon ’26 and Kelley ’25 scored second half goals for the Continentals

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Hamilton College's Lydon Kelley '25 gave the Continentals the lead with 7:29 left in the fourth quarter and lifted them to a 2-1 NESCAC win against the Bowdoin College Polar Bears at Bowdoin's Ryan Field on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Season Update

  • The Continentals (5-3, 2-2 NESCAC) are ranked 23rd in this week's National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III Top 25 poll.
  • Nationally ranked No. 22 Bowdoin (3-4, 1-3) has dropped its last two contests.

How It Happened

  • It was nearly a scoreless first half, but the Polar Bears' Evelyn Clemens connected with four seconds left in the second quarter.
  • Lilly Truchon '26 pulled Hamilton even less than two minutes into the third quarter. Despite chaos near the cage, Truchon managed to sneak a shot towards the far post and past Bowdoin's Lauren O'Donald. Sammy Higgins '26 picked up the assist.
  • On the game-winner, the Continentals picked up the ball out of Bowdoin's circle. Kelley sprinted towards the cage and launched a shot up and over O'Donald.
  • Bowdoin had one last opportunity with just 31 seconds left in the fourth quarter, but Kelly Janssen '28 stepped up to make her only save of the contest.

Notes

  • Truchon scored her third goal of the season.
  • Kelley leads Hamilton with five goals.
  • Higgins recorded an assist for the second game in a row.
  • Abby Griffin '26 tallied four saves in the first half for the Continentals. Janssen relieved Griffin at the start of the third quarter.
