No. 22 field hockey edges Colby 2-1 for third straight victory

Kelley '25 has scored a goal in each of the last three games for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – Goals by Sammy Higgins '26 and Lydon Kelley '25 led the Hamilton College Continentals to a 2-1 NESCAC win against the Colby College Mules at Hamilton's Goodfriend Field on Saturday, Oct. 5.

Season Update

  • The 22nd-ranked Continentals (6-3, 3-2 NESCAC) extended their win streak to three games.
  • Colby (5-4, 2-4) has won two of its five matchups with nationally ranked teams this fall.

How It Happened

  • After a scoreless first quarter, Hamilton went up 1-0 with 5:36 left in the second. Evelyn Butorac '27 sent the ball towards the cage from the edge of the arc and Higgins stopped it just a few yards from the cage. Higgins deftly flipped a backhand shot past the goalkeeper.
  • The Continentals took a two-goal cushion with 3:59 remaining in the third quarter. Higgins inserted the ball on a penalty corner to Isabelle Nahon '27 at the top of the arc and she dropped it over to Claire Tratnyek '26. Tratnyek sent a short pass to her left to Kelley and she hammered a shot that got past four players and the goalkeeper before it snuck inside the right post.
  • Hamilton shut out the Mules for nearly 59 minutes, but Colby finally got on the scoreboard with 1:12 to go in the fourth quarter following its seventh penalty corner. Bridget Everett one-timed a pass from Lily Conway from near the right post.

  • Kelley leads the Continentals with six goals and 12 points. She has scored a goal in three straight games. Kelley is tied for eighth in the NESCAC in goals.
  • Higgins tallied her first goal this year.
  • Tratnyek is tied for the team lead with two assists.
  • Butorac registered her first career assist at Hamilton.
