Men’s soccer battles to 3-3 tie at Oneonta

Peplowski ’25 netted his fourth goal of the season for the Continentals

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hamilton College Continentals and SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons played to a 3-3 tie in a non-conference clash at Oneonta's Red Dragon Field on Wednesday, Sept. 25.

Season Update

  • Hamilton moved to 2-4-1 overall.
  • Oneonta (4-1-3), which is a member of the State University of New York Athletic Conference, had shut out its last two opponents.

How It Happened

  • After two consecutive corner kicks, Hamilton regained the lead at 3-2 with a goal by Charles Hawthorn '25 in the 67th minute. Luke Peplowski '25 delivered the corner, which was headed off the crossbar by Tommy Kantrowitz '25. Adam Molusis '27 followed with a shot from the top of the 6-yard box that was saved by Oneonta's keeper, but the rebound fell to Hawthorn in the lower-left corner of the box and he popped it into the net.
  • Oneonta's Kevin Butler recorded the game-tying goal at 76:30.
  • Peplowski nearly netted the game-winning goal in the last minute on a shot from the top-left corner of the 18-yard box, but AJ Lucas made the final grab.
  • The Red Dragons struck first with a goal in the 24th minute by Luigi Prosperi, assisted by Ali Somow.
  • Hamilton equalized in the 28th minute with a goal by Jude Rouhana '25. Rouhana was aggressive and stole possession near the far side of the field. Peplowski received a pass from Rouhana and directed it to Pandelis Margaronis '25 at midfield. Margaronis lofted a pass to Hawthorn in the lower right-hand corner of the box. With a man on him, Hawthorn fed a charging Rouhana and he settled a shot into the lower-right corner.
  • Hamilton took a 2-1 lead in the 42nd minute with a penalty kick by Peplowski following a red card given to an Oneonta player for a foul in the box.
  • The Red Dragons countered just 25 seconds later with a goal by Nico Loaiza, evening the score at 2-2 just before the first half came to a close.
  • The Continentals owned a 15-13 advantage with a season-high 12 on target.
  • Hamilton held a 10-3 edge on corner kicks.

Notes

  • Rouhana netted his second goal of the season.
  • Peplowski leads Hamilton with four goals and 10 points.
  • Hawthorn buried his ninth career goal.
  • Peter Montesano Scheibe '27 made four stops in goal.
  • Lucas tallied eight saves for the Red Dragons.
