Ledbury ’26 scores twice in women’s soccer 4-0 win over Utica

Ledbury ’26, Buck ’27 and Gillis ’26 recorded the goals for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Maddie Ledbury '26 scored two goals and the Continentals cruised past the Utica University Pioneers 4-0 in non-conference action at Hamilton's Love Field on Wednesday, Sept 18.

Season Update

  • Hamilton improved to 2-2-1 overall.
  • Utica (2-4-0) has dropped four of its last five contests.

How It Happened

  • The Continentals put up six quick shots within the opening nine minutes.
  • Hamilton grabbed a 1-0 lead on a goal by Ledbury assisted by Abby Douglass '27 and Shayna Polsky '25 in the 11th minute. Polsky lofted a kick to Douglass up the right side of the field. Douglass showcased her speed, rolling past her defender and placing a perfect pass to Ledbury who headed a shot into the back of the net from point-blank range.
  • The Continentals doubled their lead on another goal by Ledbury assisted by Sarah Roth '25 in the 52nd minute. Roth aggressively stole possession nearly 25 yards out and zipped a pass over to Ledbury near the top-left corner of the 18-yard box. Ledbury took a step in and settled the ball into the back-left corner.
  • Less than three minutes later, Maddie Buck '27 gave the Continentals a three-goal cushion with 35:31 remaining. Buck pushed the ball down the right side of the field and launched a powerful shot from near the sideline that took a hard bounce into the net.
  • Taryn Gillis '26 added Hamilton's fourth goal with just 2:08 left. Lydia DeTraglia '28 advanced the ball up the middle of the field and fed Gillis who was just inside the left side of the 18-yard box. Gillis showed off her footwork to create room from her defender and sent a missile past a diving goalkeeper into the top-left corner.
  • Hamilton racked up a season-high 39 shots with 15 on goal while limiting the Pioneers to a pair of attempts.
  • The Continentals held an 8-0 advantage on corner kicks.
