Men's soccer erupts for four goals in win at SUNY Polytechnic

Continentals posted their 10th straight victory in the series against the Wildcats

MARCY, N.Y. – Hamilton College scored three goals in the second half and the Continentals pulled away for a 4-1 non-conference win against the SUNY Polytechnic Wildcats at SUNY Poly's Wildcat Field on Tuesday evening, Sept. 17.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (2-3-0 overall) scored as many as four goals in a match for the first time since Sept. 27, 2023 when the Continentals blanked Utica University 4-0.
  • The Wildcats (4-1-0) suffered their first loss after outscoring their first four opponents 16-2.

How It Happened

  • Luke Peplowski '25 put Hamilton up 1-0 in the 39th minute. Peplowski settled a pass inside the box, turned and hit a shot with the outside of his right foot into the lower-left corner of the goal from about 10 yards out.
  • The Continentals took a two-goal lead in the 52nd minute after a wide-open start to the second half. Jude Rouhana '25 took a corner kick and his left-footed service into the six-yard box was accidentally headed into the net by a SUNY Poly defender.
  • Aedan Burke '26 all but clinched it for Hamilton in the 73rd minute when he knocked a loose ball into the back of the net from close range.
  • Matthew McCord finally put the Wildcats on the scoreboard with a goal on a penalty kick in the 78th minute.
  • The Continentals restored their three-goal cushion in the 86th minute. Patrick Ferrare '27 drew a foul in the box and Hamilton was awarded a penalty kick which Ferrare calmly converted for the final margin.

Notes

  • Peplowski leads the team with three goals and seven points. He has 15 goals and 45 points in his career with the Continentals.
  • Burke tallied his first goal this season and the fifth of his Hamilton career.
  • Ferrare's goal was his second in two seasons with the Continentals.
  • Ferrare's PK goal was the first for Hamilton since Peplowski had one against Ithaca College on Oct. 3, 2023.
  • Peter Montesano Scheibe '27 made six saves in his second collegiate start in goal.
  • Both teams took 13 shots while the Continentals held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Hamilton extended its win streak against SUNY Poly to 10 matches. The Wildcats last defeated the Continentals in 2013.
