Volleyball completes perfect 3-0 weekend with two more wins

Cerda ’26 handed out a career-high 49 assists against SUNY Morrisville

CLINTON, N.Y. – The Hamilton College Continentals defeated Keuka College and SUNY Morrisville inside Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Saturday, Sept. 14. 
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton (3-4 overall) won all three of its matches this weekend. 
  • Empire 8 Conference member Keuka dropped to 3-5 overall while Morrisville, which is from the SUNYAC, moved to 5-4.

How It Happened
  • Hamilton sprinted out to a 5-1 lead and went up 10-4 on a kill by Caitlin Allen '27. The Wolves chipped away at their deficit with the next two points before the Continentals rattled off the next seven for a 17-6 advantage.  
  • Allen and Elodie McGeiver '27 added consecutive kills for a 22-11 lead. McGeiver finished the set with a kill and a pair of service aces. 
  • The Continentals trailed 8-6 in the second set before taking seven of the next eight points for a 13-9 lead. After trading points, Hamilton closed out the set with a six-point run. 
  • Mackenzie Sickinger '28 gave the Continentals a 14-4 cushion in the third set on a kill and Liza Beigel '28 stretched Hamilton's lead to 16-5 with a service ace. The Wolves rallied with six consecutive points and narrowed their deficit to 17-13. 
  • Keuka pulled within three points at 21-18, but kills by Kendall Scholz '27 and Kathryn Fox '27 secured the sweep. 
Notes
  • Drew Stimson '25 led the Continentals with eight kills and three blocks. 
  • McGeiver chipped in seven kills and a match-high three service aces. 
  • Allen added a season-high seven kills and had two blocks. 
  • Claire Cooper '26 dished out a career-best 24 assists.
  • Ayzlinn Trefren '28 led Hamilton with 14 digs and added two aces. 
  • Mia Jessen '28 contributed nine digs. 
  • Dayna Edholm paced Keuka with 11 kills. 

Hamilton vs. SUNY Morrisville (25-17, 16-25, 25-23, 25-15)

 
How It Happened
  • A pair of service aces and a kill by Stimson gave the Continentals an 8-6 edge in the opening set. After giving up the next point, Hamilton claimed the next five with three kills by Stimson, a kill by Trefren and a Mustang attacking error for a 13-7 advantage. 
  • Hamilton led by as many as eight points at 24-16. A kill by McGeiver gave the Continentals set one. 
  • The Continentals got out to a 6-4 lead in the second set. Morrisville countered with six of the next seven points for a 10-7 edge and led the rest of the way. The Mustangs closed out the set with six straight points. 
  • Hamilton trailed 15-9 in the third set, but a kill by Maggie Nichols '26 and two Mustang attacking errors sliced the deficit to three points.
  • Hamilton stayed close to Morrisville and tied the Mustangs at 21-21 on a kill by McGeiver and a Morrisville hitting error. The Mustangs were two points away from taking the third set, but the Continentals had another rally in them. Stimson slammed another kill, Trefren served an ace, and a Morrisville attack error gave the set to Hamilton. 
  • The Continentals jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the fourth set and led the rest of the way, extending its lead to 12 points at 22-10. Morrisville found the next four points and trailed 22-14. McGeiver and Allie Steel '28 gave the Continentals the set and the match on back-to-back kills. 
Notes
  • The Continentals tallied 10 aces and finished with 17 more kills than Morrisville.
  • Cerda dished out a career-high 49 assists. 
  • McGeiver led the Continentals with 17 kills and had a pair of service aces. 
  • Stimson tied her career high for the second time this season with 16 kills. She put up a team-best three blocks. 
  • Trefren registered 15 digs and two service aces. 
  • Emily Huppee guided Morrisville with 18 kills. 
  • Kayla Sheasby recorded 20 digs and Samantha Siedlecki produced five blocks for the Mustangs.  

Next Match

Hamilton plays its NESCAC opener at Tufts University (3-5) on Friday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.
